Ambush, infiltration and sabotage.

For some time now, I've had a DIY Chapter called the Nova Hawks. Basically, it was a bunch of plain Marines with Forge World decorated Razorbacks and Terminators. They were bland, and weren't getting the love they deserved because of it, always remaining Primer Grey instead of...well, I don't know, I never picked out Chapter colors for them.

The other day, I decided to read through the Badab War books, as I have had them for a while, but never actually read the story. And before this becomes a TL;DR, I decided I was going to rework my Nova Hawks into Raptors, mostly because Lias Issodon (the Chapter Master) has awesome rules. (Also because I have 6 razorbacks with FW doors, and 10 terminators with FW shoulder pads)

Anyway, after tossing all the old and bland Marines into a box, and shoving them under my bed to eventually get the primer stripped from them, I promptly gave GW MORE of my hard earned money, and have a pair of battleforces and some other stuff, and a bunch of those SHINY metal shoulder pads coming.

Oh boy, that is a TL;DR. :D

Anyway, since I know most people won't even read all that, here are some pictures taken on my crappy camera.

I have no idea when the rest of it will arrive, but I can at least start painting. Which will take a while, I'm not good at painting, nor do I do a lot of models when I do paint. I'm usually good for 1-5 models a week, depends on how tired I am after work.

EDIT: Ooops, blurry 3rd picture, but you get the idea.

when I did my raptors I mixed rotting flesh with catachan to highlight, worked really nicely and kept them looking more camo sneaky :) also if you dont like painting, I would recommend maybe even doing them dirty, wash them lightly with a mix of devlan and a dab of catachan. (watered down too) and maybe then just water down some matching colour of your base colours to get the boots grimey, will give you a lot of nice detail in a way without any real work :D I realize this is all premature before you have started painting but hopefully with give you some ideas to make your road ahead easier.

really looking forward to seeing how these turn out especially as you have gone the extra length to forgeworldify them up!

Yay more Raptors! Welcome to the chapter, I'm really looking forward to seeing these progress.

Take a look at the Raptors discussion thread in the Index Astartes section of the boards if you want to get a little inspiration ;)

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Hopefully my order will ship out today, I'm itching to get my hands on this project fully.

EDIT: Whoa. Tracking says it'll be delivered today. That's quick for GW. Will update tonight.

EDIT 2: Came home to a nice package sitting at my garage door. Will update soon. First have to devour pizza.

Got these in the mail today:

PLUS something else that I'm not revealing yet. I only have a half day of work tomorrow, so I'll be able to work on some of this stuff tomorrow.

And, also, while I'm at it, how much ornamentation is too much for the Raptors? I know Lias Issodon should be pretty bare, but I'd imagine he's on the extreme end, shunning even an Iron Halo. Trying to make a bodyguard for Issodon.

After some quietness, here's what I have so far:

The Force so far:

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/Hellghast/DSCN0949.jpg

Devastator Demi-Squad, going to be 4 heavy bolters, one has a resin head that needs washing before he's put with the rest of the Squad:

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/Hellghast/DSCN0950.jpg

Tactical Squad, sarge and a marine need resin washing:

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/Hellghast/DSCN0951.jpg

Scouts, pulled out all of my available Scouts for use in Apocalypse:

Armor Pool so far:

And what I still have to do:

http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss32/Hellghast/DSCN0954.jpg

I've decided that I'm going to make an entire Company, plus attached support. Probably 5th Company, and I'm assuming Raptors use standard Codex company markings? Like black shoulder trim?

Wow that's a lot of stuff! And to answer your question, no we do not use company markings. Maybe take a look at this to get some more info: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Raptors

Vulkan

I already knew all of the info on the Wikia page, because it's on the Lexicanum page. I've never understood why there's 2 wikis.

Anyway, darn on the company markings, but expected, I suppose.

I have my company captain basically done, just waiting for a resin bit to dry a little, then a quick glue.

Command squad next.

After much deliberation with myself while mowing the grass, I've decided to not do the full Company, and instead just do a strike force. Reason for that is so I can push those funds to another TOP SECRET PROJECT that I've been toying around with for some time. With that said, here's more pictures, on my yet-to-be-painted realm of battle section.

Full Force so far:

Captain and Command Squad:

Captain:

Command Squad:

Dreadnought I managed to dig up from a box under my bed. He's got good camouflage. ;)

Wowzers thats a pretty big selection of minis there sir. I like the different helmets on the command squad.

Thanks, and unfortunately, they're probably not going to get primed anytime soon. Going to either be 90 degrees and humid, or rain for the next week.

I'm considering not assembling anything else until I get this stuff primed.

In the meantime, I do have other Marines that I can use to perfect the color scheme, and then once I do that, I can paint the Scouts that are already primed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Haven't done much on this until today. I got the last of the Tactical Marines done, and the Assault marines done. All that I have right now is assembled, i'm still debating on whether or not I want to make the full Company.

Anyway, I'll leave you with a bit of a sample:

Brother-Sergeant Raul Krastyo, Company Maverick. Beneath the grim Mk. II "Crusade Armor" faceplate of this Astartes warrior lies a joker and trickster. In a such a pragmatic chapter, he strives to be as individual as possible. His frivolous mannerisms have led his Company commander Brother-Captain Numitor Tiberius, to almost outright hate him. Krastyo doesn't care, however, as he knows damn well that he's one of the best tactical sergeants to have ever served in 3rd Company, a fact that Captain Tiberius only grudgingly accepts. Several attempts have been made by Chapter Master Issodon to censure Krastyo's actions, none of stuck for very long.

(Idea totally looted from Tarik Torgaddon, of course.)

Considering it's taken me about 24 hours to complete 5 marines, this is an undertaking of epic proportions on your part! If I were you, I'd have been driven mad by the amount of mould-line removing that has to be done, long before I'd finished half as much as you have!

Good luck...!

I just discovered that that's a Mk 2 helmet on Krastyo. :cuss

I was wondering why I had so many Mk 3 helmets...

Editing fluff.

And yes, it's a lot of painting. Hopefully, it'll take me most of the fall, as I wasted away this summer.

Where did you get the Devastator Sergeants helmet? Looks like Chronos but i thought he was only in metal or am i mistaken?

Looking good, although I don't envy the amount of painting you have got ahead.... good luck

Alright, update time. No paint yet, because as it turns out, my old, black-topped pot of Catachan Green was dried out. My LGS finally got some new pots in, so I picked up 2 of them. Hopefully, tonight I can get at least a test model done. I'd tried out a test model using the Gretchen Green, but that didn't turn out well.

Anyway, got a close up shot of the Dev sarge helmet, and a Master of the Forge, who just needs a shoulder pad.

I am particularly happy with the MotF. I incorporated all parts of the servo-harness onto the bike; the flamer in the front, he's got a servo arm on his backpack, there's another servo arm on the back of the bike, and the plasma pistol on the top. Plus his Middle Finger of Doom. :P

Oh, and I got a box from GW today. It has more shoulder pads in it. Along with some other stuffs. The Master of the Forge is only at this moment, but he won't be for much longer.

Got a couple more done:

Techmarine, finecast is pretty...pretty awesome, that is. Took me a little over 5 minutes to put this guy together, with the servo-harness magnetized.

Chapter Master Lias Issodon: Here's big L-man himself. I tried to balance out his Grimness with the fact that he's a Chapter Master. I originally was going to put just a standard blank shoulder pad on his right arm, but it didn't look right, too much like a normal Tac marine. So, I want a bit ornamental, and put a grey knight shoulder pad on instead. I'd say he came out alright, maybe a tad bit glorified, but eh, I wanted him to look different than regular marines so people can make him out on the tabletop.

In anticipation of completing my first Raptor model, I decided to post some pictures of my more recent works, so everyone won't be surprised and go "Wow! that sucks! And here I was looking forward to seeing this project look nice!" Since I will admit right off the bat, that I am no good at painting, I just wanted to clear the water of all Carcharodons and stuffs.

First up, we have the Sons of Alpharius. Led by Alpharion...errr, I mean Alpharius.
