Excubitor
I should probably say how much, in over ten years, I haven't painted. As of a month ago: 2 FULL Battle Companies 2/3rds of a Scout Company 2/3rds of a Veteran Company Several vehicles from the Armoury with several techmarines, a couple dozen servitors and a few Thunderfires A Chapter household and several miscellaneous HQ characters/units towards another company. not mentioning my large collection of Fantasy High Elves, 3 large LOTR armies, and several decent sized or larger forces for other gaming systems. All put together, at least. But, I have stopped buying the last couple months and have painted 4 tactical squads, 2 Rhinos, an assault squad, a JP chaplain, a Cassius counts-as, and a librarian in the last month. Nearly finished my Predator. I'm hoping to get a Battle company done by years end. Mutters
1xAoBR Captain (primed) 1xLibrarian (primed) 1xChaplain (primed) 3xApothecaries (primed and base painted purple, trim unfinished) 2-3xTactical Squads (base painted purple, shoulder pad trim white, other trim unfinished) 4xRhino Chassis (most recently purchased) 4xSpace Marine Bikes 3xOrk Deffkoptaz chopped down and converted into space marine biker stand-ins 4xAoBR Tactical Terminators (I rarely field terminators, since I used 3xAoBR Dreadnoughts (primed) 5xkitbashed PVC drop pods 3xsquads of CCW assault/scout proxies 2xG.I. Joe Fliers as stormraven proxies 2xtechmarine proxies And all the Orks that came from AoBR, because I don't play Orks. I labeled things as proxies if they aren't specifically GW models, I use them in casual play, but they don't hold up in tourneys. GreatEscape_13
3 Armies: Star Phantoms Space Marines (my most active project): Painted: ~1400 points Assembled but unpainted: ~1100 points Unassembled: 55 points (one drop pod sitting patiently next to my hobby table) Warhammer Fantasy Orcs and Goblins (second most active project): Painted: 2500 points Assembled but unpainted: ~1700 points, though a chunk of that is a new cockatrice and black dragon for Storm of Magic games Unassembled: 90 points (30 night goblins) Imperial Guard (my prior 40k army): Painted: 3300 points Assembled but unpainted: 700 points (two hellhounds and some infantry) So total: About 7200 painted About 3640 product owned but unpainted So around 1/3 of my total GW stuff in unpainted. Not too bad--having a mostly painted large IG army helps a ton. I try not to run too much of a deficit, and never let it get to the "more unpainted than painted" point. But that's just me. Cheers. Merkava
Too much way to much. Seconded......Ultramarines 2nd Co - various stages, UM 1st Co - various, vostryan - getting there, IG co - built and primed, goff army - primed, speed freaks - still mostly in boxes, IG tank co - built, space wolf - built, grey knights - (draigowing) - mostly painted, BA jump army - built, partly painted.... Pretty much every army is 2000 pts+ and as you can see I have a short attention span........ohhh look at the butterfly...... But hey, I never get bored of painting a single colour! striker8
Some of us probably shouldn't really think about this subject! It can lead to even more serious mental issues other than figmentia. For me here's a brief run down of what I know I have painted: 169 painted marines and Inq mini's for 40k 343 painted mini's for other games and display The unpainted: For 40k I probably have 3 to 4 times as much still sealed in the box or unboxed complete sprues as I have painted. I should have almost enough to give me a Battle Company with options and more cool supoort things than you can shake a stick at if I ever get it all done. My whole pile o lead/plastic for all things mini related takes up an old 40's pantry, a 32" tall 5 drawer storage unit, and a small 3 drawer one, and a stack of boxes about 2 foot high of boxes that won't fit out of sight somewhere else plus misc stuff stashed in and around my painting desk. 98% of that is either new in box and blister, or in bags to help conserve some space. And since I consider bits intregal to building anything, My bits collection for marines alone is a stack of 40k vehicle boxes packed full that stands about 4 feet tall with 3 or 4 of the cheap larger sized plastic storage bins for the other 40k and fantasy bits. It's a lot of stuff with the saving grace of knowing I did do it over a good bit of time so I consider myself at least semi sane. I do know people who have their whole basement full of un opened box upon box that make me look like a newbie. I want to lend a sage bit of advice to everyone. The biggest complaint I hear from people about not painting their army is that they got it all assembled and are playing with it but when they want to paint there's so much to do they get intimidated and frustrated by how daunting it looks to complet it. My solution, try to keep the assembled stuff to a minimum, I personaly try for no more than 2 units worth assembled and waiting for paint at a time. Keep all unpainted models out of sight as much as possible. Put them in a drawer or a box, anywhere you can't see then. The only unpainted things you should have out is what you're working on. With only one unit out and being being worked on at a time you can keep focus better, as you work you will see progress with out measuring it against the amout of unpainted stuff to go, when your done leave this unit out to motivate yourself for the next. Before you know it your painted will outmumber your painted if you've stopped buying that is in my case I keep about even. Remember, Wargamer tradition dictates a man can not die till he's painted all he has. In my case I'm good till about 2250 I guess! HvitrValdyr
I would say about 97% of my stuff is unpainted. I love to build and convert minis but I hate painting. I have 16 years worth of Space Wolves (regular and 13th Co), Space Marines, Wood Elves, High Elves, Vampire Counts, Necromunda and Mordheim spread out over 2 tables, a few cases and a storage closet. Its probably never gonna get done. I need to partner up with someone who loves painting but not building so I can build everything and then they can paint it... calgar101
A vast amount and I mean vast amount of my army is unpainted and unassembled and those that are, are only primed; bearing in mind I have over 1500 Infantry/vehicle models. Durus
Everytime, a thread like this comes up I start thinking about how long it would take me to paint the models I own. Then I decide it's better not to know. Taz
I've got about one whole company of Blood Angels with accompanying armor that are all in various stages of being done. Most of them still have their prime and basecoats showing. >>' I wish I could afford a proper airbrush. Not the (admittedly cool looking) GW hand flamer debacle. Brother-Captain Sharp
I have probably about 3000 points painted. I own over 20,000 points of Space Marines... Spazmonkey
I started in the original Rogue Trader days and as of right now I have 3 Terminators still being painted and 5 Sanguinary Guard (stand-ins for Vanguard Vets) which are assembled but not primed yet for my new Minotaur Chapter army, other than that I believe all of my marines are all painted which includes a small Crimson Fists force, about 1,000 points, about 4,000 points of Black Templars and maybe 5,000 points of my DIY Chapter the Crimson Lions. I also have about 11,000 points of Orks with all but 2 Deffkoptas and 5 Boyz are painted at the moment. I also have 2,000 - 3,000 point armies of Dwarves, Empire, Tomb Kings and Ogre Kingdoms painted up for Fantasy. OMG:cussBBQ.... Iron-Daemon Forge
I think right now for me unpainted wise for armies I collect. Grey Knights 3x Rhinos 1x Dreadknight Object Marker Paladin unit Blood Angels 2x Storm Raven Space Hulk The Terminators do have paints on them but it more trying to finish them. Daemons Still need to buy a box of plastic Bloodcrusher, trying to phase out any metal models. I think overall I have the above, some none 40k/power armour stuff. Other than that my armies tend to be fully painted. I might have a few things in boxies where I needed some bits for conversion or add the odd model due to new conversion idea in to one of my current armies, like my Space Wolves I just made a new LotD object marker after seen the Black Library new LotD novel. But I alway aim to get into habit of getting armies painted in the spare hours I got when in my home. My friends comment it rare to see me with a un-painted army. Armies I have that can be said on the fourm  is Iron Warriors, Space Wolves, Iron Hands, Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Chaos Daemons. Then there a IW fleet & Space Wolf fleet for Battlefleet Gothic & then Space Hulk. Hfran Morkai
None  Then again I've donated my old Wolves (for the second time) as Forge World released full Heresy Era Armour kits and weapons and I want to represent it as best as possible. Decided that I'm going to start with 25 marines (Five sets of MK IV armour) because I want a full running Blood Claw Pack and full Grey Hunter pack as the basis, everything else will be added and painted as acquired. NecronGovernour
Hm. I'm new, started gathering bitz and boxes this year, and haven't put much work in besides decoloring. I'd say, 1500-2000 pts SM, at least a third built (maybe more, but I'll probably make some minor conversions), But I want them painted before fielding them in public. Witty
Currently have 6 marines and a Pedro-counts-as in process, all primed black awaiting basecoats, a Predator needing detailing, and 3 plastic librarians waiting for me to get around to finding arms/weapon options for them. Everything else painted to tabletop standards Being married helps somewhat in this regard, I'm not allowed to buy more toy spacemen until I've finished the ones I've got =D About to order 2 Razorbacks, a Whirlwind, a Dev squad, and a command squad, which will likely take me about 2-3mo to paint up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235548-how-much-unpainted-army-do-you-own/page/2/#findComment-2839843 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
I have a painted Dark Angels 3rd company (112 marines, 2 Preds, 1 Vindi, 4 LR's) and a painted Guard Platoon (75 Guardsmen, 3 Heavy Weapon teams, 1 Chimera, 1 Leman Russ, 1 Sentinal). So those two armies make about 10% of what I currently own, leavy a shirt-load of stuff left to paint, including about 6000pts of High Elves. Marine Errant
Well, I too have been playing since RT days. I have over 30k points of marines painted but also have about another 10k to paint including (but not limited to......) the following - 3 vindis, 2 TFCs, 4 assault squads (to get me up to 10 ;) ), 30 termis, 4 razorbacks, 4 LRs......and loads more....sigh I have about 6k of guard to paint and put together, 5k of dark elves for fantasy, 5k of OnG and 6k of Empire to finish and add to the 3k I already have painted. I am another that refuses to play with unpainted figures. I have a store room especially for my figures and there seems to be no end in sight. As soon as I finish painting a squad I just go out and buy another......sigh.....need professional help I think.....
