How much unpainted army do you own?

A ton.

I lol'd. No details, huh? ;) I can see your basement now, inaccessible due to all the bare plastic bits crammed down there.

Let's just say that I would have to rent a separate moving truck if I ever decided to move. :)
Almost everything I have is unpainted; meaning 2000 points of blood angels and 3000 points of Dark elves are frequently deployed in their naked gray glory. In terms of unassembled stuff I have a few boxes worth of stuff for each system. It must be a younger gamer thing but I've just never been that motivated to paint, I love the game, I love the fluff, I am just less of a fan of the painting.

Only really got back into the hobby 3-4 months ago, I have already managed to amass quite a bit of unpainted/unbuilt stuff

Unbuilt

2 Boxes of Sanguinary Guard

2 Drop Pods

1 Box of death company

1 Librarian dread complete with pegasus wings

Unpainted

5 Honour Gaurd

2 Assault Squads

1 Chaplin

If it gets built it ususally gets painted..... assembling models seems to be my problem.

Sadly, I have all but abandoned 40K these days. At one point, not that long ago, I had about 10000pts of Space Marines. My job changed, and so did my gaming. I have no time to play anymore, therefore I had no need to build my army. Now I collect and paint units (from all Manufactureres and game systems) and just build and paint. I kept a small portion of my Scout Force, and about a dozen power armoured marines, and a few Terminators. All of my 40K units are painted, except one Storm Raven.

Okay Board relevant stuff

1 set of Space Hulk Termies and Stealers

1 box of Sang Guard

2 Land speeders (plan on doing something about these tonight)

20ish ground pounding Assault marines

10 Jp Assault Marines

7 metal GKT for a mate ( also making a proper start tonight) One done

3-4 Plastic GKT

10+ plastic termies assorted Tac and Assault on top of the Space Hulk ones

1 metal Dread

Non BnC relevant

30ish firewarriors

50ish Kroot

1 Hammerhead

2 crisis suits

2 stealth suits

bulk drones

1 box of Warhammer Quest so

11 Orcs

11 Skaven

11 giant spiders

11 Giant Rats

11 giant Bats

22 door ways

22 goblins

3 minotaurs

4 main hero chars

3 expansion heros (Chaos Knight, Elf Swordmaster and a Inquisitor)

5 orks from the Expansion

2 goblins from expansion

1 Squighound

and random assortment of stuff in bits boxes that "could" Be built but is not.

My Ultramarines army is somewhere between 2k and 3k points, all of which is unpainted save for a tactical squad, one sternguard, a couple Rhinos, a Land Raider, and Sicarius.

Yeah, I'm refusing to let myself buy more until I paint what I have... ><

OK...

For 40K, I know I have over a hundred of the old metal Terminators, a company-odd of Stone Hearts (about a third of whom are actually painted), some Mentors in various stages of completion (another twenty or thirty odd Marines), perhaps fifty odd Marines who aren't really assigned or painted, twenty Space Hulk Terminators, a few dozen Chaos Marines (who need repainting), and a dozen-odd Rhino-chassis vehicles.

I also have about a Kill Team's worth each of Tau and Eldar. And a crapload of Tyranid infantry for Space Hulk. And a few Dark Eldar. And a few Orks. The general detritus of armies one assembles.

Then there's Epic. I have at least a thousand Marines who need painting (though some of them are nearly done). And that doesn't include the swarms of Rhinos and Land Raiders and Whirlwinds and Predators. And, of course, there's a bunch of Eldar for that, and a surprisingly large number of Orks, and some Imperial Guard...

And then there's Warmaster. I have three small High Elf armies, some Dwarves, a few human units, and a bunch of Orcs (though this mixes in some stuff from the Battle of Five Armies).

Of course, that overlooks Battlefleet Gothic, where I've got about ten or twelve ships waiting for painting, and probably twenty-odd that should be repainted.

That takes care of GW.

And for other systems: there's at least a company of Battletech miniatures, two small Heavy Gear armies, two decent sized Heavy Gear Fleet Scale fleets, a bunch of 20mm infantry from Mechwarrior, some old Starship Trooper stuff, some old Trinity stuff, and a few assorted miniatures from random systems and manufacturers.

So...a lot?

shrug, i've managed to make up a lot of lost ground lately in the past 6 months.

managed to paint almost all of the infantry added to my ig list back when the codex was updated and my drop troops list became just an all-infantry list, roughly 80 guardsmen. a full battle company of marines, goes well on display next to my IG infantry company. a 2k deathwing/mech support list, for an escalation league at the club. and my dwarf blood bowl team, the league season starts in 2 weeks.

but what's left to paint.

1 squad of IG psykers, 2 more chimeras, 2 vendettas, 2 hydras, and an unassembled forgeworld bombard. a land raider, 4 land speeder variants, 6 bikers, 20 more terminators, a vindicator... plus 11 drop pods still on sprues for the battle company.

for fantasy... most of my boxed up and shelved 2k+ clan skyre skaven army from the old armybook, never played with and which'll probably never get painted now as with all the new better looking models i'd want to switch over for a pestilens/moulder list if i ever got into fantasy (though not interested in storm of magic).

and warmachine, a decent amount of unpainted khador stuff, i don't even remember what they're called but like a squad of heavy infantry and a squad of heavier infantry, and then 5-6 warjacks plus that warcaster that's the size of a warjack. also never played with.

there was more, but i recently cleaned house on random stuff i was fairly certain i wasn't going to use, like 20 pink horrors/3 wave serpents/etc, and a decent amount of menoth (feora, flameguard, cleansers, sisters, choir, avatar and guardian jack, 3 diff smalljacks). oh, and my lotr gondor army, which saddened me but i haven't seen anyone at my club play lotr/wotr in the past couple years, around the time wotr came out (no interest in it either but i liked lotr skimirshes).

when time isn't a factor, usually the two biggest deterrants to me painting a model is priming and basing, if all my models were magically based and primed during the night after i assembled them, i'd be more inclined to work on them (and asking the gf to do this is just out of the question).

I have about 2500 pts (maybe more?) in Raven Guard and growing, with some 1300-1400 pts painted. Just like many of you I used to vow to never field unpainted models, however reality verified my claims :) Right now, however, I am in the process of painting a dev squad, which will take my painted army pointage up to 1500 pts and I'm determined not to field anything unpainted from then on. 1500pts seems a big enough army to play with on most occasions.

Also, we have a saying in our club that when a true gamer paints all of his models, he dies. Luckily there's Forge World, who mercifully keep us alive so far with their new releases :)

After over ten years in the hobby...I've just started painting my stuff.

Mostly because I finally got around to buying carry cases for them where they wouldn't break and the paint won't chip.

Similar thing to me. ^.^

  • 2 weeks later...
A vast amount and I mean vast amount of my army is unpainted and unassembled and those that are, are only primed; bearing in mind I have over 1500 Infantry/vehicle models.

The same right here as well with the exception of the number. I have no idea how many models that I own, which is proabably a good thing.

Got me a Apoc SM company plus several Preds, LR's and Vindicators etc, plus half a compnay of Termies and associated command personnel... all un painted and only a third of it is assembled lol :( i also have a FW Thhunderhawk sitting around in its bits nd bobs.

ive got a High elf army unpainted and almost fully assembled, mass loads of Imperial Guard, not quite sure what i have of that, but lots of infantry and a fair few vechs. got some Orks too from the Black Reach set... so yea, a feth load of plastic lol, to top it off, im going to be SO peeved if we have any more major earthquakes over here (christchurch, NZ) and i end up losing my models lol, gna be real Grr at the Emperor for that! :P

Still, on the plus side, ive started work on my FW 6incher SM :)

Shaabhekh

The rest of my stuff is painted (if not finished).

That's my situation here. I have about 5 or so random models not painted. All the rest are painted, but only 3 squads and a few ICs are finished.

Hmm... well, none of my models are unpainted per se... however quite a few of them have parts that are unpainted, some are just primed or have their basecoat w/ no details. Hell. some don't even exist yet but are simply in pieces like my dreadnought drop pod scratchbuild lol.

Everything is painted in my army!

Doesn't mean it's assembled!

I paint it in pieces, then never get around to gluing them together.

1/3 is painted but unglued.

1/3 is painted but undergoing changes in Chapter colour

1/3 is painted and table ready.

The painted heads are sitting there, right now, staring at me.

"Glue us, glue us, glue us!!"

Creepy. Never again buying Librarians for my army.

In all seriousness, I own 9 armies at various points levels. 8 40k 1 fantasy. My Chaos marines are by and far the largest, I'm guessing somewhere in the range of 10k+ followed closely by Wolves and SM. 98% of all of them are at least in primer, I can say that much. I think I have 2000+ point of CSM painted, and at that it is bare minimum.

I hate painting.

i have 3 Armies at the moment, 2 are on hold as they are to large to take back and forth to uni.

Iron Warriors - 4 land raiders (1 ares) - 2 unpainted

- 25 khorne bezerkers - 15 unpainted

- 20 plague marines - 10 unpainted

- 5 possessed

- 2 oblits - 1 unpainted

- 1 predator - unpainted

- 6 bikers - all unpainted

- 7 noise marines

- 5 chosen

- 5 rhinos - 4 unpainted

(varying codex)

Iron Templars - High Marshall - Unpainted

- Shrike

- Lysander - unpainted

- 5 temies - 4 unpainted

- 7 Sternguard

- 2 tactical squads - all unpainted except sergeants

- 3 rhinos - 2 unpainted

- land raider - unpainted

- 2 dreads (one contemptor)

- 5 scouts - unpainted

then there is the small army i am taking to uni and will be expanding and painting while there

Flesh Tearers - Librarian - done

- Reclusiarch - done

- Sanguinary Priest - half done

- 10 assault marines - one sergeant done

so honestly, alot is unpainted... really does put it into perspective for me. :tu:

I never paint before I build. I never buy a box, build it, paint it, then buy a box, rinse & repeat.

I buy a box, build it, use it for months. Maybe I'll paint a couple of models. If it's a vehicle, it has a slightly better chance of being painted. Broad surfaces and all... the less detail work something requires, the more likely I am to paint it. Once I get into detail work, I end up taking 8 hours to do a single mini.. and the result is a high TABLETOP quality mini. Nothing spectacular, but I seem to take forever to get anything done because it has to be done RIGHT before I can call it finished and varnish it up.

Of the 8000 points of Blood Angels I own, roughly 1500pts is painted. 1000 is primed. 1000 still in boxes. The rest is assembled and has been used for games.. but a paint brush has yet to touch them.
