Piousservant
Simple question, basing bikes - do you bother or not? I never have done before but I've been rebuilding my Ravenwing and looking at the oval bases you now get with the bikes and I can't decide whether to use them or not. darth_giles
I prefer to base mine. You can make them do wheelies and stuff if you work it right. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235589-basing-bikes/#findComment-2837210 Share on other sites
Durus
When bikes didn't have bases, I based mine anyway. They were always falling over. Of course these were the Ravenwing bikes with metal components, but depending on the pose or just where they are standing on the table (uphill) you'll probably have the same problem. It also ties them together with all the other models of the army. It always bugged to have normal bases, titan bases (flat 60mm bases), clear flying stands and non based models next to each other. Piousservant
Thanks guys- I think I will go with the bases, more modelling options, plus like you say - it ties them in with the rest of the army. However, that lends itself to another question what size base do you put an Attack Bike on...? darth_giles
WFB cavalry bases for the regular bikes, 40mm roundies for the attack bikes. Attack bikes can't easily do wheelies, though =/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235589-basing-bikes/#findComment-2838223 Share on other sites
MaliGn
I used 60mm round bases for some chaos bikes that I extended the wheel base on, this meant that they would no longer fit on a cavalry base. However this was before the snazzy "bike base" came into existance. I'd use them for the normal bikes and stick attack bikes on the 60mm rounds. Incidentally the 60mm bases did give me LOADS of room for base detailing, each model became like it's own mini-diorama. Also there is like no room leftover on a rectangular cavalry bases, which looks stupid. JTibbetts
I actually used a normal base under the wheel on the attack bike. I kind of like the effect, but I can understand that it looks a little goofy to most other people. Never seen anyone else do it. So, the bike itself has an oval, and then the wheel on the sidecar just has a normal sized base right under it. I tend to think of bases like a little air bubble of scenery, so in my head it makes sense for anything that would touch the ground to have one to "float" on. Durus
Dragonforge sells "Attack Bases". Basically a larger bike base an attack bike would fit on perfectly. On my old attack bikes I used round 60mm bases though. Works well too. JamesI
I just got a bunch of 60mm rounds for my attack bikes. 40mm are way too small for attack bikes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235589-basing-bikes/#findComment-2842461 Share on other sites
