Billy Butcher
Basically were they known as da before they got to caliban? Or did the lion name them when he took command? Apologies if it's already been covered, I'm on my phone and the search function doesn't like it lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235593-when-did-the-dark-angels-become-dark-angels/ Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
Before Caliban and being renamed Dark Angels, they were simply "The First". Billy Butcher
Cheers! So was the legion symbol in existence when they were the first, or was that when they became the dark angels? Tia. Grotsmasha
Same Legion symbol, but I'm fairly sure it was red rather than white, and as with all pre-heresy Legion markings, was on the right shoulder rather than the left, as it is in todays Chapters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235593-when-did-the-dark-angels-become-dark-angels/#findComment-2837251 Share on other sites

Grotsmasha
Yeh, I've been going off what RT era players have said, and I'm pretty sure GW haven't ret-conned any of it, I joined the hobby with Codex Angels of Death, and have never looked back. Vodunius
Yeh, I've been going off what RT era players have said, and I'm pretty sure GW haven't ret-conned any of it According to the Dark Angels Index Astartes article their pre-heresy scheme was black with a white chapter badge on the left pad and a number on the right, this isn't a retcon of Rogue Trader however since Rogue Trader was set in M41 not Pre/Mid-Heresy. Also that bit about all pre-heresy markings going on the right is wrong, it was only the actual heresy armours: MkV & VI whose studded left pad forced the legion emblem to be shifted to the right, the actual pre-heresy suits had two normal pads like Mk VII & VIII. Abhorash
Cheers! So was the legion symbol in existence when they were the first, or was that when they became the dark angels? Tia. I don't know the legion symbol of the first prior to their arrival to Caliban, but the downward sword of the Dark Angels emblem was taken from the Order. The wings were added when they were renamed.
