Iacton Qruze wants to win a Slayer Sword

Alright, so here's the brainstorming thread. I'm happy to hear contributions from anyone. If you've got an idea you think would look super cool, and want to potentially see it made by me and entered in the Daemons next year, throw it up! :D

My current ideas (Some are not 40k related, but this is just to let you know where I'm at, as I'm going to try to hit at least 3 categories next year)

40k Vehicle - FW SW Venerable Dreadnought; A tried and true thing for me, but nothing that a lot of judges haven't seen from me before.

Crusade Era Thousand Sons Contemptor; Something I've been wanting to do, and I picked up the base model at Gamesday.

40k Monster - Iron Priest on a TW; My army is going to need one, and those new Ogre Kingdoms Rhinox cav models look like a good TWM base.

Fantasy Single - Harry the Hammer; I like the piece, and it's been sitting in shrink wrap for a couple of years now. Would love to get it painted.

Diorama - "Air Superiority"; This is something I've spent a lot of time thinking about, and I'm very inspired by it, but the gist is a fully aerial duel between a kislevite lancer on a griffon and a wight lord on a zombie dragon I'm keeping some of the finer details secret for now.

A Rune Priest that has just caught a Carnifex in the chasm of his JotWW spell. (Suggested by Brother Ramses)

Obviously, the Open category is going to be available if I can't fit everything I want to do into each category.

So yeah, no shortage of ideas, just a shortage of ideas that are wolfy and I feel can top my Bjorn.

Have at it, brothers and sisters! :D

Expanding on the idea from the other topic. A group of Wolf Scouts attacking a Daemon Prince, Cannifex, or Dreadnought.

The Daemon Prince one they are shooting and hitting it will swords and stuff with the Daemon Prince holding one of the Wolf Scouts in his hand and he is roaring at the other ones.

The Cannifex one they could be hanging onto it and attacking it will the Cannifex falling over onto a tree.

The Dreadnought could that four of the wolf scouts are in the front of the Dreadnought with the fifth behind it putting a Meltabomb on it. The Dreadnought is Chaos of course.

Diorama: Bjorn vs Magnus with Ironhelm barreling in. Suitably epic and a nod towrds a Black Library novel for brownie points.

Another one, maybe a blood claw changing into a wulfen with a pile of khorne zerkers dead at his feet.

A classic duel between a Thousand Sons and a Wolf. Maybe taken from some of the battles in Prospero Burns and a Thousand Sons.

Wolf Scout coming out from cover and pulling a chaos termie down onto it's back to shove a knife through it's eye / in under the helmet join? ^_^ (Wanted to do something like that for a while but have never had the time / skill)

This was posted in the other thread and I thought I'd transfer it here b/c I liked the imagery of it. A big, bada** Chaos terminator brought down by a single carapace-armored scout with a knife. I also like Elric's idea of half the squad playing decoy, while a single scout comes up behind. It's a very stereotypical lupine hunting tactic.

I also like the idea posed by Brother Ramses. I guess they both hit home b/c my favorite SW units are rune priests and scouts.. anyway, I think the JotWW idea needs "more". The carnifex is a good idea at first, but imo it would be too clunky to convert. Initially, I pictured a squad of IG leaping out of the way, but I dunno if portraying two Imperial armies combating each other is the best route. Maybe TS cultists or something. Either way, seeing the first 3-4 models in a squad leaping or staggering away as the JotWW crack starts to open would look pretty sweet combined with another 4+ in the squad falling in. And of course, the leading purpose of JotWW is for sniping command models, so whichever army is chosen, the command model should be big and/or standing near a large (near-monster) model struggling in vain not to fall in. The problem behind this idea is it'll take forever and it'll likely be pretty big. It'd only be natural to show the full 18" extension of JotWW as well as a few inch spacer on each end. Then the details IN the crack would make the base rather tall. Combine that with a squad of enemies (all likely needing conversion) and possibly some supporting models near the rune priest, and you've got 10+ models to put on a 2ft base all in your exacting and meticulous style. It would be amazing, but very daunting imo.. that is, if you go with the idea in this manner.

I'd LOVE to see you do a contemptor.. even if it is a 1k Son. But I agree, it doesn't all have to be Space Wolf this and that.

Levitas also brings up a good point. Giving a nod to a BL novel would give you tons of brownie points. However, since you've done Bjorn already, doing him again in diorama might burn you out. Personally I loved the two bottleneck scenarios portrayed in Battle of the Fang and think you could manage those quite well. It's been a while since I read Prospero Burns, so off the top of my head, the only scenes I can remember that might suit for diorama are when the rune priests take Kasper to the mountainous area with runes scribed on the cliff rocks, etc (and the corruption and betrayal thereafter), and when Kasper is sent to the den to meet Leman Russ for the first time. OMG wtb an Iacton Qruze version of Leman Russ!

I think that the only thing that your dreadnought was missing and its something very hard to add to a vehicle was dynamism so thats what I think whatever your next piece needs. An air of movement.

I'm excited to see whatever you come up with.

A diorama I have always wanted to see although I certainly don't have the skill to do it is a lone custodes holding a corridor of the emperors palace against a daemons and traitors.

Per my idea from the Golden Demon thread, yes I read this one first, I think these might work:

- SW WG Termies vs. some sort of Chaos Termies

- SW Scouts, maybe against Chaos Termies and/or a Chaos Dread

- SW Scouts being inserted off a LS Storm, with an enemy base totally unaware nearby

May add more later, likely below this line.

Edit: that duel between two Contemptors sounds impressive, but it would have to have subtlety to it to hopefully help get you the win.

pulling from some of these ideas, I'm thinking about a contemptor duel; one space wolf, one thousand sons, on prospero, and have them locked in a flat out brawl to the death.
Make it where the SW one had ripped the arm off the Thousand Sons one and was beating it will it. I think it would add something different to the scene that we havn't seen before.

They would both be well and truly "effed up", though not so much that you couldn't see all the freehand added to both models. :)

In my head right now, I've got the wolf barreling the kson to the ground while he's rending at the wolf's plates trying to get inside the sarcophagus.

I'm shooting for capturing the most dynamic second of the fight.

Nice

an image that popped into my head when reading battle of the fang was those guardianwolves down in the corridors where the venerable ancient ones slumber...

it would be cool to see a traitor marine being dragged into the darkness by a huge wolf, with sarcofagi in the background, a few yellow eyes glowing in the shades near the other traitor marines who are planting explosives...

I think a SW victory feast in the Fang, complete with a drunken brawl or two between Blood Claws, would be freaking awesome.

but like GIANT I don't think you can put something that big into the Golden Daemon.

It'd work for an Armies on Parade scheme. Pity it's not a Golden Daemon category... unless you go for the Open.

40K Single Minature. A new sculpt or conversion of Logan Grimnar, not using the old model. He needs to be larger than others as the fluff goes, and he needs a suffecciently epic slow and purposeful striding pose.

40K Squad, Wolf Guard

40K Vehicle, Try something different this time like a Vindicator with a mural of an epic battle on its siege shield.

40k Monster, I think your Iron Priest on Thunderwolf idea is great.

40K Diorama/Duel, A ower armored Lone Wolf trying to fulfill his oath aagainst a great tyranid beast.

40K Open Class, Your 1k sons contemptor sounds good.

Warhammer and LOTR, dont ask me ;)

this idea played in my head when i read the razorback info bout the long fangs making it a moble armoy for them. but the otber idea i had for it was have the long fangs sitting around a fire on the eve of battle like they are postion waiting. with the RB back door open so u can see all the weapons racked so they could choose what is needed. thats my idea have at it i dont have the skill needed for something like that.

How about a mini diorama with a squad of Grey Hunters in a brawl with some 1K sons, with the centre peice being a grey hunter in mid-transformation into a wulfen, ripping chunks out of a 1K son whilst his own armour cracks and flies off?

You've certainly got the talent to do it! ;)

Well, you wouldn't need to try for the entire Great Hall in the Fang—just a small section of it. Maybe Logan's table and some of the surrounding area. Although, if you did want to try for the whole hall, Open Class is always available. :HQ:
