Wulfebane
i was having a little think last night and a bit of a play around with mine, thinking of running a squad of 5 TWC, with 1 SS and a TH, having my TWL join with a SS Frost Axe RA and Saga of the Hunter, and a WGBL on a TWM with a Plasma pistol and a CCW or BP and making use of the gunslinger rule, with RA and Saga of the Hunter and outflanking the whole unit. haven't tried it yet but may cause some angst to one of my main competitors who is a cheese king. Rules for Saga of the Hunter won't allow it to be given to a TWM model. the codex only says that it may not be given to a model with a jump pack or on a space marine bike on pge 85 at the bottom as a little asterix note thingy, and i just double checked but couldnt see anything else in the FAQ about it either. First two words in the Saga of the Hunter ruling: "Infantry only." (pg. 64) The rules for TWMs state that once a model takes a thunderwolf mount, they become a Cavalry unit, not Infantry. (pg. 62) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235618-thunder-wolves/page/2/#findComment-3158285 Share on other sites
Brannrik
i keep it simple with 1th and 2 plain too. 180 points who can deal some real dmg. i find ss useless now since they cost a fortune and you usually get shoots to bits by bolter or anything alike and iven if ap 3 or less fires at you you should have a 5+ save. if i want to make this squad more survivabel i'd rather take more modells! Where's the 5+ save from? i assumed being able to get cover which normally is the case, i mena there normally is some sort of terrain, infantry or vehicle in the way you can hide behind. that's why i wrote "should" not will :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235618-thunder-wolves/page/2/#findComment-3158303 Share on other sites
Hear da Lamentation
With the new wound allocation rules, you have to put wounds on the nearest model to the shooters, until he is dead or there are no more wounds .... then on to the next closest guy. You have some leeway with trying to get specific models to take the wounds, but with a decent move the opponent also has quite a say in who he is hitting in your unit. Torin
Good day Brother, So far i have played 2 games with my TWC in 6ed.. all i can say is that.. AWESOME... so far. First vs BA and second vs eldar/ IG wt vendetta.. annoying. i play with the following config TH/SS, CCW/ Melta, CCW/ SS this is with a TWC lord with FA/SS, wtn,wt, Articier Armor( a MUST)& Warborn..... 4 in total. These unit real put lots of fear in your opponent now.. with movement 12" with 2d6 charge with a reroll for charge. Dont forget they get hammer of wrath attack aswell. Thus far they have been superb on the table, with proper placing of your TWC you can cut through enemy with ease. With the wound allocation now... you can play with your enemy unit. But be carefull of enemy unit with character in the squad as they can issue challenge to your IC.. the best is seing dante run from your TW Lord with a Frost Axe.... no offence intended to BA player :) cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235618-thunder-wolves/page/2/#findComment-3165887 Share on other sites
Conine
I have about 150-200 points left over in my army to spend on some Thunderwolf Calvary what would be the best setup, three models plain or with one or two cheap upgrades or two models loaded out with the expensive stuff? You posted on the second page. Read the first page. I did read the first page as well as every other thread I could find via the search button but there isn't a lot of talk on cheap Thunderwolves. Most of the builds list multiple TH and SS guys, and I couldn't find anything on just taking two models instead of three which is what I am asking. At the points level I have left over would it be better to carry just two models with one TH/SS or three with one with SS and the others plain? Brom MKIV
Each build will give a variety of results but when in doubt more bodies is the best bet. As for equipment my vote is the pf. Without an IC to control wounds allocation better a single SS is not reliable at soaking ranged attacks. In addition units like twc usually die to torrent of fire where a shield is useless. Otoh five s10 attacks scares everything. Besides I wouldn't consider only 18 rending attacks reliable at killing much. 30 maybe.
