Wulfen

Ok so I thought I might make some Wulfen rules for a campaign I'm doing.

Unit Name

Wulfen5054152103+/6++

Wulfen (Troops)..........30pts per model

  • Beast

  • 3-15 Wulfen

  • Power Armour
  • Claws and Teeth

  • Acute Senses
  • Counter Attack
  • Rage
  • Rending
  • Fearless
  • Animal Resilience
  • Furious Charge
  • Deathly Howl

  • Wulfen cannot travel in transports.

Animal Resilience: Turning into a wulfen has had a physical effect on the Thirteenth Company giving them an unnatural resilience. To show this Wulfen invulnerable saves are increased by 1.

Deathly Howl: When going into combat, Wulfen howl a song of death. This gives the Wulfen the defensive grenades rule as the enemy gets put off in fear.

So if we say a normal Grey Hunter is 15pts. We have +1 to every stat (+2 for attacks) and dropped BS (not planning on shooting anyways) and then all of those Special rules... you coudl put a price on the unit but the killing potential they have is better than thunderwolves as you can put them in a Raider they cant be instant deathed except strength 10. If you point them thye will be more than thunderwolves as they would rip thunderwolves apart lol so that woudl make it 50pts a model.....

Perhaps reducing the stats would be a plan. I understand why you've added all these extras but they are obscene from a gaming stand point.

I would think removing WS5 as they are crazed animals not swordmasters. Also drop the t5 and w2 as that is the real over powered points.

If they have and they shall know no fear then there is no need for fearless as they contradict one another so choose the one you think is fitting. Personally fearless sounds right.

Rage is good as it shows the animal urges. And then i would say choose either feel no pain or rending as both again make them pretty crazy.

Finally I like the 6++ shows the even better reflexes they have.

with these proposed changes i woudl still say 25pts...

25pts for fleet, feel no pain, s5, a3 and a 6++ space marine sounds more reasonable. With your full list of goodies i woudl say 60pts at least as they would kill a thunderwolf one on one easy and have a smaller foot print on the board to hide.

Some thing I would change is fluffwise. Would they have the frame of mind to use frag genardes?

I see what you mean but I just thought a group of wolf men would be great at combat in forests.

It looks nicer. I may try these out myself. what are you planning in terms of modelling? Will they be on beast bases? I might try it out with my fenrisian wolves.

I'm probably going to get some off ebay though I've already made the 13th Company Wolf Lord (still needs a few more bits [chain axes]). I'll post him later.

as the stats stand now there would be no reason to ever consider taking them....specially when a GH is 10 points less and would perform every single thing better than them + shooting.

they have the detrimental rule of rage, they cant ride transports, so they are going to get shot at, they cant shoot in return ever, they cant ride transports to be shielded from shooting and cost 25 points??? all for marine stats with fleet and rending??

nah man bump em up to ws ,I,S 5 (keep em toughness 4 tough) and then they'd be worth 25 points

However WS5 would represent the preternatural ability of beast to anticipate opponents , just instinctive behavior really, and the very fact that they are now faster than any astartes of the rank and file.

also looking at the bag of goodies, look at the lone wolf, feel no pain eternal warrior, with re rolls that doesnt give kill points ws 5 all for just 20 points. And he has shooting, can take power weapons , termie armor and storm shields, all options the wulfen dont have.

hell the wulfen dont have access to the armory, so that warrants them having other advantages. Lets look at it this way, a GK with a halberd will butcher thunder wolf cavalry and he is 25 points. So measuring them against another unit like thunderwolves isnt rly a good show of point costs.

You know there is already a very nice thread about wulfen in the 13th company project.......

I would suggest going and having a read of said forum section first, or moving this discussion into there ;)

Agreed, all these new pups just ignored Mav's post... geez. His intentions were genuine, and nice. The Wulfen thread there has allot of great ideas/discussions already. I'm just glad my group of Claws are a solid bunch, who actually listen to the older wolves here, not to mention checks and uses the search function before posting a new thread hahaha.

Ahh you get used to it Mav_Girl ;)

For those of us starting to get somewhat long in the tooth, we tend to see the same threads cycle through every 6-12 months.

I really need to write up a list of all such threads somewhere... pre-written post saying "see x, y & z" lol

here is the thing the discussion on that wulfen thread DIED, the last post on it is mine from like what 2 months ago with no responses???

I understand were your coming from, but does it justify starting a similar thread? how about we do two more of these wulfen threads and you get back to me on that. But I guess it's really not my call, it's more up to a mod and especially the responsibility of the person who starts a new thread to see if there is already a similar one to his. But that's just me. Not everyone here bothers to check. So yes your right, it sucks sometimes when you get no replies, and yes it's been dead for two months, and yes sometimes people bring up old threads.... or in this case start their own.
