Ironwrought Huw
Greetings again folks. Sadly, this isn't a pre pre-release of Forge World's model, this is my own creation. It does use a fair bit of FW parts though. I don't collect or play the Astral Claws, or renegades. I'm firmly in the Iron Hands and UltraSmurf camp, but there's something about the Valthex character that I really like, so I thought I'd have a tinker. These are early stages at the moment, for example I need to smooth out the green-stuff on his neck-cover and Machina Opus symbol. The conversion beamer will be mounted over his left shoulder. I had an image in my head of what I thought he'd look like - lots of cables and wires running all over him, but not obviously "grrr, argh, I'm evil". I believe the term is 'sinister' or 'imposing'. I chose to represent his power-weapons as mechanendrites (the tentacle-claw thingys) rather than servo-arms. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011596.jpg Something I added because I liked the idea (and I had the top half of an auspex after an accident with a knife!), was him having an auspex controller on a mechanendrite-arm, that he could consult mid-battle. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011599.jpg Thanks for looking! Any criticism is welcome, as are any suggestions Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/ Share on other sites
augustmanifesto
i really like what i can see but the picture makes it hard to see any detail -- would love to see more close ups Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2838290 Share on other sites
Ironwrought Huw
Ah, once again my poor old camera has let me down  Hopefully this is a better photo. This shows just how much left there is to do on the beamer (gap filling for one...) http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/closeup.jpg Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2838358 Share on other sites
shan vener
i hate to say this but while i was at gamesday my friend went to the forge world seminar and said that they would be making a velthex model within a month or two. although your actually not that far off from the official model. I'm really looking forwards to them releasing it! I actually can't wait to be honest (although I am slightly miffed that they announced it just when I think "I'll make my own") Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2838370 Share on other sites
Ironwrought Huw
Edit - rather than tripple post, I thought it best to edit my last post. Nearly finished. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/parts.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/weaponry.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/auspex.jpg The last photo shows how the auspex fits onto the model (which I've realised is now going to be almost completely impossible to see once completed...) C&C welcome (and wanted please!) Cheers for looking. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2839011 Share on other sites
Brother-Captain Sharp
I love it. However, I would love it even more if the pictures weren't blurry. <_< From what I can see the painting looks good, and the auspex idea is awesome. Khargan
if your camera has a M setting or flower symbol, thats macro mode, zoom right out then you can put it close to take a good picture Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2839607 Share on other sites
Ironwrought Huw
Thanks! And, err, sorry  One of these days I swear I'll work out how to take good photos... Anyway, I've pretty much finished him this evening, what do you guys think? http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/left.jpg http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/back-1.jpg Cheers again *edit - I posted this at just the wrong moment, as I just saw Khargan's advice. I tried it, and I've just found out that my camera can actually take good photos... darth_giles
if your camera has a M setting or flower symbol, thats macro mode, zoom right out then you can put it close to take a good pictureBetter just use the flower setting. On most of the higher-end cameras, M stands for Nightmare Mode if all you know are point-and-shoots. I'm not kidding. Then again, on a higher-end camera you will often have the minimum distance listed on the outside of the lens itself. For example, a Canon 18-55mm IS lens has a minimum range of just under a foot- which is plenty given how you can zoom in with the lens. Ironwrought Huw
Ok, thanks to Khargan's tips, I think I've finally learnt how to take good photos. Here he is, the finished product, Patriarch of the Forge Armanneus Valthex, heretic of Badab. http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l545/Huberticus66/P1011615.jpg Cheers for looking Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2840137 Share on other sites

Pig Of Sparta
Think it looks awesome. money + 12% postage saved! I agree with Khargan ;) If you can make your own then more power to you. I particularly like the worn lookyou've achieved to the miniature, especially the red areas, Valthex has definately been hard at work either in his forge or in the crucible of battle. Ironwrought Huw
Thanks guys  I can honestly say I've never had so much fun building and painting a figure. Probably because for once I had a clear image in my head of how I thought Valthex would look. I particularly like the worn lookyou've achieved to the miniature, especially the red areas, Valthex has definately been hard at work either in his forge or in the crucible of battle. Thanks, that's how I wanted him to look - 'well worn'. Like he's so focused on his techno-heresy, fighting and generic evil-doings he no-longer (has the time to) religiously clean and polish his armour - but still functional - not a walking scrapyard... Pretty simple to do as well. The metals - washed with very watered down asurmen blue, highlights in the origional colour. Then, wash in pure badab black, then do the highlights again. However, highlight in chainmail rather than boltgun. The red - mechrite washed in pure badab, then pure devlan mud. Highlighted and given a few 'random patches' on the raised/flat surfaces in mechrite red again - gives it the well worn and dirty look. Cheers again guys :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235676-armanneus-valthex/#findComment-2840273 Share on other sites
