Magnetising Typhoon ML to Land Speeder

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am in the process of converting some of the new model Land Speeders and am seeking advice on how best to magnetically attach the Typhoon multiple missile launcher to the model. I have opted for the side doors with the open slot. I want to avoid having an exposed magnet on the outside of the door, as for most of the time I don't run with the Typhoon ML, and the exposed magnets don't look so great!.

So hopefully someone has successfully magnetised these things from the inside of the cabin?

I appreciate any assistance you can offer.

I spent the afternoon yesterday planning how to magnetise my land speeder for the typhoon launcher racks and found this on the internet

I didn't have any plasticard so i stuck some sprue to the floor of the speeder attached a magnet with super glue, placed a second magnet on top and some more super glue on the exposed face where the door would be and dry fitted the door until the glues dried.

Once dry you can remove the door with magnet stuck to it placed perfectly!

I'm at work now, so no pictures, but that blog post should help you out.

OK, I had pretty good success with the magnets!. I followed the process per the link as far as attaching the magnets to the Missile Launchers. However with the new model Land Speeders having the "open-hatch" door option, the next part is quite simple.

I attached the doors as per the kit instructions, then cut a cube of sprue about 0.75cm long. Attach a magnet to one edge of the sprue and let dry. Then just manipulate the position of the cut sprue on the small raised rectangle on the inside door (just below the open hatch). By inserting the ML you can easily line up the magnets to obtain a position where the external edge of the ML touches evenly on the closed door and the magnets hold it neatly in place. Mark this spot then, when positioned, simply glue the sprue to the rectangular patch at the required spot.

Looks pretty good from the outside.

Glad to hear you got it sorted!

I finished magnetising mine earlier this week, I'd only managed one side due to time issues at the weekend. I found the same thing as you, from the outside the method rarely matters as long as you can find a way of getting the magnets to sit in the right position to ensure a good firm hold so that it looks convincing.

Now it just needs painting...

If I were to magnetize some Landspeeders, I would attach a length of sprue to the back of each door and place a magnet on the end. Then let the magnets "meet" in the middle of the speeder.

The only investment would be four magnets and a few pieces of sprue.

What can I say - I'm cheap! ;)
