Tycho6
I remember my shock at reading the first line of the HH. I had to re-read it. A friend of mine is just starting the series and had the same reaction. That got me thinking. I don't have the book in front of me, but from memory, it is Loken who says that and then goes on to say something to the effect that it wasn't that much of a "delicious consceit" years later. Could it be that this is an indication that Loken will be there at the final battle? I know that the line in the first book relates to a different emperor, but could it ALSO relate to E? Thoughts? Skirax
As the BL has basically ripped up any rational plotlines by bringing Loken back, it's almost guaranteed that he'll be there. Plus, I've always thought it'd be delicious if the last line of the HH series was "I was there the day the Emperor killed Horus". Then the Scouring series begins. Saa
Hmmmm I could be wrong (but I don't think I am) but isn't Lokens iconic opening line supposed to be in ref to the 'Emperor' who's ass they're whipping at the start of the book?? He even makes ref to what a great joke it is when he's asked to repeatedly tell the story...... Yeah 'we' know that given it's the Horus Heresy series it's a delicious irony but I doubt very much it's supposed to represent Loken on the battle barge hiding under Sanguinius' corpse with a camera But maybe I'm wrong.....but I doubt it in honesty  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235725-the-very-start-of-the-first-book/#findComment-2838992 Share on other sites
Captain Semper
Yeap, Saa's got it right. Not THE Emperor. Another guy calling himself "Emperor". The guy responsible for Sejanus' death. Anyway, the Scouring series sounds so very promising :P I do hope BL introduces it. Even before HH series end (if they ever). EBIT: @ Saa: Well if your career as a Luna Wolves Captain does not pay (which lets face it, it's not a good move for the long term), you can always become a paparazzi! Now these guys are never short of bussines! :) :) :). It was the old man with the invisible guards that were smoking the Luna Wolves in the throne room. The wannabe Emperor. Tycho6
I know that the line in the first book relates to a different emperor, but could it ALSO relate to E? I KNOW in the first book it is not referring to the Emperor who created the Primarchs - as you will see above! "'I was there,' he would say afterwards, until afterwards became a time quite devoid of laughter. 'I was there, the day Horus slew the Emperor.' It was a delicious conceit, and his comrades would chuckle at the sheer treason of it... There was a great tragedy implicit in the tale of the Emperor's murder" Skirax - thanks for reading my first post properly - your idea for the last line is ace, it would be a great way to (book)end the series. Coryphaus 101
Loken wouldn't be on the Vengeful Spirit. He's part of the Eight who were sent out by the Emperor before he went up against Horus to root out corruption, xenos, mutation etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235725-the-very-start-of-the-first-book/#findComment-2839845 Share on other sites

You're welcome mate  The first few books of the series, I got this brilliant sense of many plot layers and a huge plot bringing all that together, but alas as the series has gone on, they just seem like books to me now. Lol i read your first post. Clearly you didn't read mine. You not only asked a question which I answered with my opinion (check out my third paragraph in my post) but you also then went on to answer your own question by sayin that you KNOW (caps were yours not mine) that it doesn't refer to Empy himself. And as for your ALSO I covered that already :D Just because my opinion on a fictional world differs to yours doesn't mean I fail basic post reading 1-oh-1  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235725-the-very-start-of-the-first-book/#findComment-2841234 Share on other sites
