WIP: BA Librarian

I'm in a painting frenzy! I have basically a week to finish the majority of my GT list, since once school starts, I won't have much time to do it before the tournament. Unfortunately for me, I do not like my current Librarian:

I made and painted this guy up awhile ago, and I wasn't really pleased with him then. I used old paints, and the greenstuff robes were poor. Overall, he was just bad.

It's been like a year, but I still have much more confidence in my painting now then I did then. So, it's time for a new one! I raided my bits box, and came up with this:

Thats the reverse-double-grip Glaive Encarmine from the Sanguinary Guard, as well as a head and a shoulderpad from them aswell. I'm going to turn one shoulderpad into a psychic hood, and finally, I plan to magnetize him, to switch between jump pack and normal backpack. I don't really have any plans to run a foot libby, but options can't hurt, right?

Anyways, first the conversion! Then, I plan to paint him red, with one blue arm. I didn't really like the all blue the first time around (which is why I went with the terribad robes...). Question: Is it the right or left arm that is painted blue? My instinct is the right, but my instinct is often wrong.

Building your own characters is often fun, challenging and very rewarding as you know no-one else will have that same model.

As a fellow BA player, I like your choice of bitz you are using. I converted a Lamenters Librarian a year or so ago and painted his left arm and left kneepad blue - but this was purely personal choice. Just go with what feels right for yourself.

Instead of trying to convert a psychic hood out of a shoulder pad (which can be very time consuming and lead to a lot of cursing and bloodied thumbs) have you ever thought about using the new Grey Knight torso backs as they have a hood built in. Have a look on a couple of bitz sites and I'm sure you will be able to find one.

Anyway, good luck with the model - I will keep an eye on this as I would to see the results.

Thanks man!

About the hood: I am both parts broke and impatient. Getting a proper hood bit was just not a possibility for me! ;)

Heres the conversion, all prepped on my patented painting brace-rig-system:

Next up is painting. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a blue right arm, just because I think that will make it look the best. But first, I gotta put some more time in on my Stormraven. Still hope to have an update sometime Monday!

Looking good so far. Just a quick ip for you - if you know someone who plays guitar, see if you can acquire some of thier old guitar strings. They make great cabling for Marines armour (just use an old pair of clippers to cut it with though - the guitar string will ruin the cutting edge of a decent pair).
