How best to transport a librarian in a rhino army?

It makes sense from RAI if you consider PotW to be a close combat attack. To me it's certainly not a shooting attack.

I mean...it's neither. It's feedback; it's "more than you can chew".

It's weird. It should either never allow the 2++ vs. Perils or always allow it; that it only functions in melee feels like an oversight and bothers me, honestly. But, there it is.

I recently beat a count as blood angels army:

1750 points.

1x libby

blood lance

sword of sanguinus

10 man tactical

1x lascannon

1x plasma gun

10 man tactical

1x lascannon

1x melta gun

6x scouts

camo cloaks

combi melta

rocket launcher

snipers

5x vanguard

2x power fist

3x power weapon

3x land speeder tornado

2-3x heavy bolters

3x land speeder tornado

2-3x heavy flamers

1x dreadnought with missile launcher and twin linked lascannon

5x devastator marines

4x rocket launchers

+1 ballistic skill thing

I used the librarian with the inquisitor's retinue in the chimera supported by 4 rhinos and 3x 10 man strike squads with 2 psycannons each and a thunder hammers and a 10 man prufier unit with 8 halberds and 2 psycannons with 2 psycannon dreads.

I won by the end of turn 6 and i had:

1 fully operational dreadnought

a rhino without its storm bolter

a 3 man strike squad with 2 psycannons and a thunder hammer

a 2 man strike squad with 2 psycannons

a full 10 man strike squad with no casulties

a 9 man purifier unit that lost one psycannon

Plus my librarian with no wounds.

we played with 4 buildings, one was a bastion on a 4 by 4 table. And he had first turn and i didn't combat squad or reserve a single thing. I and my opponent also never got a psychic power off whenever we were within range of each other and i failed my first 2-3 leadership tests for my grey knights.

thanks

Why not just hide him inside a Paladin combat squad or a Terminator blob? Enemy anti-tank is close to useless against them (oh hai 2+armour/3+ cover and 10 ablative wounds), you make other armies cry with how much carnage they inflict in close-combat (WS5 or a lot of WS4 attacks, S6 after buffs, 2D6 against armour, I6 due to halberds, auto-ID if you take the Bro Banner etc). They also get you more boots on the ground, scoring in the case of Troop Terminators.

If you're going to hide him inside a tank, you'll have to accept it's going to draw every gun in enemy lines at it. Especially if he's with weak T3 infantry, that lower majority Toughness on him (if you go the Coteaz route). Thats largely why I don't feel comfortable taking the alternative of the Stormraven, it's just such a fire magnet that I can't use it as a transport, only as an expensive gunship. Both options are AV12, which everyone meta's for when taking anti-tank.
