The Exiled

History:

The Exiled are an old chapter, created sometime between the 3rd and 4th foundings.

Originally, the exiled were simply marines commonly found participating in suicide missions to fulfil their death oaths to their chapter. However, In 877.M33, an increase of random sightings of space marines indicated a large amount of wandering astartes whose talents could be better used somewhere else. Captain Dharon of the Raptors 4th company proposed the idea that these marines, if formed into a larger force and sent to areas deemed too dangerous could not only change the tide of countless wars but also fulfil their death oaths. Presenting this idea to the High Lords, they quickly saw merit in it and wholeheartedly approved the creation of the Exiled. From then on, any marine exiled from a chapter could serve a term decided by their former chapter master in lieu of a death oath.

They saw fit to "promote" Captain Dharon, but within the first 2 years of his command, he was torn apart by bloodletters on the world of Vorris. With such a blow to the morale of these warriors, the High Lords feared that they would be overrun and the idea behind their formation quickly forgotten. Determined not to let his former masters legacy die so soon, Captain Varik, formerly of the Shadow Stalkers Chapter, elected to forgo his return to his brethren and took up the mantle of Master of the Lost. He created guidelines for the fledgling chapter and structured the chapter so that they could survive over the coming years.

Over time, the chapter grew and marines were allowed the right of acceptance, whereupon if the marine in question so chose, then after his original service term was up, he could stay with the exiled instead of returning to his chapter. These marines would be known as the Lost and would make up the veteran 1st company of the Exiled. they would be recorded as dying honorably in battle, and have their geneseed extracted and returned to the Chapter. From then on they would become full brother veterans of the Exiled.

Homeworld:

The Exiled have no homeworld, and are instead a space bound fleet. Supposedly they control at least one Ramilies class starfort somewhere in the Praxus belt in Segmentum Solar but this has not been proven.

Of the Exiled's ships, what is known is that they posess the Battle Barge Wrath of the Storm and the Redemption in addition to strike cruisers and various escorts. The Redemption was manufactured especially for the exiled, while the Wrath was donated by the Storm Lords in recognition of the aid given during the Hadrix cluster campaign.

Chapter Tactics:

Due to the random nature of who is in the chapter at any time, the tactics used may lean from codex bound, such as when Lord Aghammen of the Genesis Chapter commanded the Exiled, to almost complete disregard of the codex's descriptions. Currently, The Exiled tend to favour tactics employed by the Raven Guard and their successors due to Lord Cyllus' command ethic.

The Chapter at Present:

Currently, the make up of the Chapter is waxing. This is seen as a cause of consternation by Lord Cyllus. However, many of the newest recruits are not truly exiled, but around 23% of the chapter is now made up of what remains of the Shadow Stalkers Chapter, who were recently destroyed in the Icarian Reclamations. This is a milestone for the chapter as for the first time, it has received gene-seed that is fully dedicated to the chapter. This has allowed for neophytes to begin training and for the first time scouts have been inducted directly into the chapter.

Lord Cyllus, formerly of the Shadow Stalkers, now holds the position of Master of the Lost. He has held this position for 2 decades and under his influence the Chapter seems to be increasing its combat record while keeping losses down. Many former Exiled have Lord Cyllus to thank for their return to their Chapters. Curiously, it seems that Cyllus and Lord Varik have many features in common. No few believe Lord Cyllus is descended from Master Varik, although the coincidence has attracted Inquisitorial attentions.

Color Scheme and armament:

The Exiled use any equipment sanctioned for use by the Mechanicus, from Storm Raven Gunships and Caestus assault rams to Thunderfire cannons. They all repaint

their armor black to signify their shame and quest for redemption and mark their shoulder pad trim in silver. The left trim is the company color. They have no official badge as they come from a variety of chapters.

The Forgotten:

Within the high council of the exiled, stands an Honor Guard 20 strong. These warriors are all the very best of their chapters and upon entrance to the Forgotten, destroy any evidence of their former chapters allegiance. Their armor is midnight black and they wear Cream Robes. They all carry Artefacts known as The Silent Glaives. Each is a potent relic blade fashioned by the Iron Father Ferrian upon his induction to the high council. These Honor Guard serve as Chaplains to the Exiled, and at any time 2 are despatched across the Imperium to search for those seeking to honor death oaths. The High-Praetor, master of the Forgotten, is the only brother with the authority to countermand the Master of the Lost's orders.
