Rottimus
Hello, Would just like to report some recent success I've had with stripping paint off old models. I found something called Isopropanol. Which is essentially rubbing alcohol but a kind designed to go into diesel engines to remove any moisture. It sounds nasty but it's really not, it's less toxic that most paintstrippers, nail varnish remover, brake fluid. you should be able to find it in most Hardware stores under the names, Isopropanol, blue spirit, condensation remover etc. I've been stripping a few plastic models of really thick old paint in about 15 minutes. Also the results are much better than say Dettol, the paint dissovles and flakes off rather than going goopy and slimy like with Dettol. no melting of the plastic too! This may be old news but I'm glad I found something that works, without giving me brain damage, and without gooping or making a massive mess! will put up some pictures of my success soon! Cyrox
Awesome news mate - been looking for something like this Can you get it from Halfords or B&Q? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235974-stripping-success/#findComment-2842645 Share on other sites
Jacinda
It should be obvious by the description but better to not assume anything. Isopropanol is very flammable. Please use with caution. Rather, don't do anything dumb like smoke at your desk with models sitting in an open bowl of this or soaking up a batch in a room with no ventilation. Rottimus
As always i'd recommend following the label on the bottle.... As with all chemicals take the neccessary precations... I got mine at a petrol station, I've seen it at hardware stores etc B&Q should have it... I live in Norway so it's easy to come by (its meant for removing moisture in diesel engines, you dont want water in your engine when it's -20 degrees =) might be harder to come by in the UK but it's a relatively well known chemical... people also use it to clean delicate items like cpu's (as it evaporates and leaves no moisture whatsoever) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235974-stripping-success/#findComment-2843095 Share on other sites
