Commander S. Caesare
So, just not too long ago I just rediscovered some of my old pre-heresy Dark Angels in the back of my garage that want to be part of my Ultramarine successor chapter, the Cerulean Executioners. I'll show of the DAs in a later post. How would I remove the varnish, the paints, and possibly the instant glue? I would like to scrap these guys up and bring on the field in their bloodiest manner. I'll post some examples later. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235978-best-way-of-removing-paint/ Share on other sites
Jacinda
My personal favorite is called "Purple Power" from Wal-Mart. Other people swear by "Simple Green." Still others will say break fluid works best but that has a chance of eating your plastics. To me Purple Power and Simple Green yield the same results, but the purple stuff is much cheaper. Place all the models you want stripped in a bowl or a container of some sort. Fill the container with which ever product you decide to go with until the models are full covered and no bits are sticking above the cleaner. Let sit for 2 to 4 days. The paint should come off easily with a little scrubbing with an old toothbrush under running water. Quite often very little to no scrubbing is required. Be sure to save the stripper; I usually use it three times before starting with a new batch. These products will also loosen any glue joints that are not perfectly tight. For the more stubborn glued pieces, use a little NON-ACETONE nail polish remover as a de-bonder. If it is a plastic piece you may want to consider if it is worth risking the loss of the model before going after it with any form of de-bonding agent. Hyaenidae
I use Mean Green from Dollar Tree. Works like a charm on all sorts of types of paint, and it only costs a buck! The Non-acetone nail polish remover works well for stubborn pieces too, like Jacinda said. Good luck! striker8
There is no single best way to go about stripping, just ways that work best for each person and the materials they want to strip. Each has it's own pro's and cons. Best bet is to do a search since you can find people stripping mini's with many different products and techniques. Just remember what you use on metals might not be a good choice for plastics. Emperor's Instrument
I go for undiluted Dettol Antiseptic. I've used it on plastic and metal mini's and it works fine. You only have to immerse your chosen victim for about ninety minutes then scrub off with a toothbrush under running water. Obviously wherever you do this it'll stink like a hospital for the remainder of the day unless you can get some good airflow through. Vagrant
ive used both purple power and simple green. purple power is more effective, a few hours of soaking and you are good to go. the good thing about simple green is that its easier on your hands. i have to use gloves with purple power and not with simple green. purple power is also cheaper.
