Its an insult.... no ifs buts or maybes.

And dont give me any of that "LIMITED EDITION"....... nonsense. When you buy a limited edition car you know you are getting something special....something above and beyond.

Paying 4x as much for something 1/3 as long is a farce..... especially since from what Ive been told 'Promethean Sun' was nothing whatsoever to get excited about.

The authors bear the responsibility as much as WH..... when you put your name to something, you endorse everything about it. All this "Ooooh Im just the author" :cusse would insult a pond amoeba.

:P

Who says that? I'm very proud of Aurelian, thanks. It's not for everyone. That's the point. You feel entitled to it, for various reasons, and that's your prerogative. The company feels that exclusivity on a rare item is a better path for their product, especially when the story will eventually come out in other formats anyway. That's their prerogative.

I love it, personally. I sympathise with people who can't get hold of it but want it, and I totally see the points of people who don't want it because of the price. Both very valid, mature standpoints. But the "This should be available to everyone" thing is sort of farcical, because - first of all - it will be. We're all waiting ages for Book X anyway, so this is no different. And secondly, if you're one of the ones choosing not to buy it because of the cost, then you've made your stand and the cost has nothing to do with it. You don't think it's worth it. Other people do, that's why it sells. Why be angry about that? Must every product ever be targeted specifically at your desires? You were the one to choose your stance, then you get angry that others don't share it? They want it. Let them have it. If you want it in that format, go for it. If you don't, you're choosing not to. If you want it in another format, it'll come out fairly soon, anyway. We're all waiting years for countless HH stories. It's life.

But then, I love buying Collector's Edition stuff, and I'm dead happy I was able to contribute to one that looks so lush. It can go with all my pointless Star Wars merch that means nothing to anyone, and my Resident Evil chainsaw controller that sucks for using in the game.

http://aarondembskibowden.wordpress.com/?s...Heresy+novellas -- Link slightly out of date, the HH novellas were upped to 3,000.

Ah the joys of collectables as A D-B said, useless to practically everyone apart from a rediciously small miniority, lol.

Yeah I totally get collectables for people, as I am a hoarder myself. In this circumstance it doesn't appeal to me, which is why I was specific about this above.

Again, I apologise to any authors who feel I started an attack on their work by bringing this up originally in this thread.

Friends? :)

Again, I apologise to any authors who feel I started an attack on their work by bringing this up originally in this thread.

I think you should be fine there Cap, you weren't the person that was making insulting remarks and outright attacking the authors and their work.

Well, it looks like the cover art for Aurelian has been released. Shows off some nastiness of what looks to be Lorgar standing over a dying Avatar and in front of a bunch of wrecked Eldar buildings. Poncy Elderr gettin' krumped but good? Count me in, although I would like to know why this is so expensive.

Where'd you see it, dude? I've been dying to post it on my blog for months, but I need to wait for the official reveal.

Look at my comment above.

Yeh the picture as i said is pretty terrible to be honest - BL cover art is so samey - would be nice to see an author at BL actually choose decent artwork.

That's not how publishing works.

I see your crafty edit.

A Black Library novelist not signed up for the Black Library e-Newsletter? Astounding.

It'd be pointless 99.9% of the time. It'd be a newsletter announcing stuff I've usually known about for over a year, with a list of everything I was already sent for free several weeks before. I don't say that to be a tool, but you can sort of imagine why a newsletter would be pointless almost all of the time. It's also the first time they've announced my artwork in the newsletter before the blog or the Facebook, so it's not like there's a precedent.

Isn't it? Because all of the other authors that i follow choose their own cover art.

Stop ninja'ing me so fast then! :cuss

Hmm another one that I won't get for some time ...

@ADB - I see your points, but this series as games workshop in general has a very loyal fan base. And everyone knows they will buy whatever comes out regardless of price, even if its a rip off. Its just milking the fat cow, its not about it being extra special. They are a company and have targets and profit margins to meet. (Probably bigger ones every year) People are compelled to buy these anyway, BL knows this.

If they do come out at a later date then it just proves my point. And tbh I couldn't see you officially saying otherwise as you technically represent them.

Its exactly like when they made 'The killing ground' hardback. Who wants this hardback really? But you have to buy it unless you want to wait a year to find out what happens. I also like the all round price hikes BL seems to be integrating, but that's beside the point.

Anyway love your work, and I look forward to reading this new one when I get the chance.

Oh, Pulse. I love you, but your innocence makes me weep. I think you're missing the immense divide between "Author: This is what I want" and "Artist: Six months later, this is what I've done."

It's about the same as "I'm going to write a book about X" which is 8 words, and an actual 100,000 word, 400-page novel.

And I love it, anyway. I think it's perfect, despite your Negative Nancying that makes me want to destroy you unto the ninth generation of your bloodline*.

* -- Not really. I'm way too lazy.

Im the least innocent person you'll chat to i am sure, just need talk to see my military service record to know that. ;)

Nancying!! I'd rather see myself as a realist rather than negative, lol. :D

If it was about making the most money possible, there are many, many better ways of doing it. That's where this argument falls down. They'd make much more money releasing 10,000 copies of it. They'd make much more money releasing it on a cheaper format, to the full audience. So, joking aside, "for the money" is a weak foundation. It's not a struggle for BL to hit its various targets. BL is increasingly a major player in GW's finances in recent years (EDIT: in the sense of how much money it makes now compared to how much it used to. It's in a very good place.)

Either way, with the greatest respect, I've spilled out about as much word count as I'm willing to on the subject of the limited edition novellas and their existence/pricing/whatever. It's not only unfair for me to be literally the only target for the complaints (as I'm the only visible one, understandably), but it's also so, so, so incredibly boring.

I don't blame anyone for not liking them. Similarly, I don't blame anyone for wanting to pay for the rareness of it, or the exclusivity. I pass no judgements on anyone, no sir.

Except people that like Star Trek, as I have often established.

I really like the cover art and the concept. The limited addition books are for people that want something extra and special for themselves and will pay good money for it. It's like buying a car. Some people get a car on the cheap side to get them from one place to another while others get one that they can ride in style in but is more expensive. Everything has it's pros and cons. The normal books are cheap and get the job done. The limited addition books are bigger and better but are more expensive. It's personal choice really. I didn't really want to pay £30 for Promethean Sun (no offence Nick) because I didn't think it was going to be the centre piece to my collection and decided to wait till it comes out in standard form. Whereas with Aurelian I want it to and think it will be my centre piece.

I think I have covered everything.

Once again Love the cover art.
