The Alpha Legion as in 'Legion'?

You couldn't have bettered it. This isn't meant as a slight on your work, but Legion is the best book in the series and the most rereadable book in the series too. A genuine page turner that gave us an insight into the legion whilst also leaving things (their loyalty) up for debate. Dans other books are a bit hit and miss, but he got Legion spot on.

All IMO, of course. I know there are a few people who really don't like Legion and would have wanted you to write it. I wish you'd written Battle for the Abyss or Prospero Burns and think you'd have done them better. But for me, a different 'Legion' could only be a worse 'Legion'.

I wouldn't have done the Alpha Legion like Dan did, either.

How would you have done it then?

Worse.

Scooped. See:

I mean, I wouldn't have done the Alpha Legion like Dan did, either. Mine would probably have sucked by comparison.
I am probs going to get this if I can, ADB hasn't written a Power Armour novel I have not hated yet so I don't think he would let us down now. But what I do hope they will not do though, is do this for a major event in the Heresy we are all looking forward too, something like the Battle of Tallarn, or anything to do with the Seige of Terra.

The entire mandate behind non-novels (like short stories, audio dramas and limited edition novellas) is to show a little extra. I would never put in something essential, and I doubt any of the others would, either. That's literally my entire focus when I work on something HH-related, but outside a novel.

They're extras, a little like a Director's Cut. That's all. The scene in Aliens with the sentry guns is awesome, tense, and cool as hell, but it's not essential. That's what I always try to think of, when I write this sort of Director's Cut stuff.

And ADB since your maybe lurking here is Butchers Nail's going to be an audio drama?

It is. My next Horus Heresy novel is going to feature the World Eaters and another Legion quite heavily, doing... something. Aurelian hints at what they're going to do. The Butcher's Nails shows them starting to do it.

Cool ADB, thanks for taking a worry off. Butchers Nails is going to be the first audio book I'm going to get by the look of it lol, glad you got World Eaters dude looking forward to it

I said it before and I will say it again: I loathe these limited edition runs. We as fans are being pruned out of reading what we choose to buy and enjoy simply due to an artificial supply number. Why can BL not offer, for example, a simple ebook format of these limited editions so those who simply want to read the story can still have access? I have seen nothing from BL that assures readers who missed out on these limited editions that they will be able to purchase them later on in a collection or anthology or as a stand alone ebook.

I've said it, like, a hundred times, though.

They'll be available again, just not in the limited edition format.

I wish you had a part time job answering BL emails. I have asked that question for every limited edition run and never received a response that indicated in flat terms one way or another if they would be made available again. Thank you for your response.

For really reals?

I'll speak to them about that. Going over next week for a Horus Heresy meeting, anyway.

Ta for letting me know.

When I inquired about Promethean Sun I was told that the re-released in a couple of years is just something that they have been using as a standard bit of blurb on all special editions since day one and that there are no guarantees that it'll ever see print again.

I for one would definitely like to see if this is true or not.

Agreed

Just saw this over on The Great Crusade forums from Shroud

Christian Dunn stated at BL Live 2011 that 'Promethean Sun' would eventually be reprinted in a softback collection of HH novellas. It is a safe assumption that this would apply to other limited edition stories too.

So it sounds like they might be publishing them as an anthology of some sort in the future.

Ok, to add to the unreasoned demands of an internet forum full of fanboys and super nerds (or both) of which I just might be one, would audio novels ever be transcribed into written format? Of course I would imagine they wouldn't read as good as they sound, but thought I would ask.

What is with all the griping over the price of a limited run novella? If you want it, and can afford it, you buy it. The price reflects the limited run but if you want to see really silly book prices just do a search for the cost of a first edition of The Hobbit, or even the first of the Harry Potter books they sell for thousands and were printed in similar numbers to the BL limited runs. Nobody forces people to pay these prices it comes down to what you can afford and your willingness to pay.

There is a limited run book - 500 copies - about to be released about the old Group B rally cars from the late '80's, and a very comprehensive history of all the cars from this era it is too. The price? £999.00 so I don't personally think that £30 for a limited run novella is extortion but if I lived in a cardboard box, had no job and only wondered where my next fix was coming from I might have a different opinion.

I think it's more about wanting it and not being able to justify thirty quid for a novella regardless of it's limited run.

Dont bother trying to explain logic to that post, its going to fall on deaf ears.

the last sentence shows just how "off" of reality his opinion is.
