Rush for 'Ard Boyz

Recommended Posts

All right my fellow wolf brothers, this is for all our benefits, but mostly mine. I'm starting this to help me and you keep on track with finishing our armies for 'Ard Boyz. Personally, my army seems to always be a WIP, I'm always changing it. So I don't have to build a whole army, just most of one. MY FLGS will be holding the tournament on the 20th, so I will have a little more time than most, and my goal is to at least have it all assembled and basecoated by then. Anyways, feel free to join, post pics of your own progress, and nag us pledges. Or share your own plans, or lists for 'Ard Boyz etc..

Well, my plan consisted of getting there the moment the store opened to grab some Green Stuff and a Bike Squadron, then sculpt some meltaguns, since GW Customer Service is slow, but I realised that Ard Boyz starts at the same time the store opens, so I'll have to build and sculpt really fast.

while I have absolutely no idea what "Ard Boyz" is all about, (I'm guessing some kind of qualifiers or whatever, either way, not something they have in Belgium) I have been making new plans for my army. just finnished placing an order at the GW site for 200+ euros, and I fear I'll still have to go through the Forgeworld site aswell :s thank Russ I asked for money to work on my house for my birthday :D

fyi: the gw order:

dark angels ravenwing battleforce

meltaguns

classic Njal

space marine jump packs

techmarine + servitors (finecast)

Venerable Dreadnought

3x Space Wolves Accessory Frame

Khorne Berserkers

this all in the hopes that I can find a way to get those damned space Marines unglued (argh, favourite MTG series EVER!) so I can re-assemble them in a way I agree with by the end of September, when we start our own little campaign

That Ravenwing Battleforce sounds tasty. 'Ard Boyz is a GW tournament here in North America that is hosted by hundreds of indpendent retailers and GW stores all over the place. It's a 2,500 pt limit, and it's meant to be an all-out, no holds battle. There are 3 rounds at each event, and each has a different scenario that scores victory points differently. Extra points are awarded for nice painting and converting. There are three stages of the event. The qualifiers which are everywhere, then regional semi-finals, and then the Championships.

===edit=== Oh, Ignus, you don't happen to be related to "The Flash" do you? haha

===Edit=== I just got a Devestator and Space Wolves Pack box, washed the sprues with some warm water and scrubed with a soft old toothbrush. Right now I'm waiting for them to dry, and in the meantime I'm attempting to beg some friends for two more plasmacannons.

Figure that if I can manage to lose the roll to go first against the local horde players, I should get a fair amount done. They're also in transports, excluding the bikers, so I can probably sculpt during my opponents turn. If necessary, the meltaguns may end up as snakes of Green Stuff that represent a...a...firehose. Yes, a firehose under incredible pressure. This will be interesting, to say the least.

Or I could stick little cylinders on the front of some plasma guns and call them a special-issue pre-heresy weapon.

ouch, i only have around 1750 points at the moment.

what will you all be running in it?

i currently have a rune priest, a pack of scouts, three GH's in rhino, a landspeeder, pack of skyclaws (which i love fluff wise), wolf priest, some count as wolves and a pack of long fangs.

Yeah, it's a pretty large amount of points compared to most tournamnets. I would recommend having at least three full packs of Grey Hunters. I'm running 40 Grey Hunters in mine, two packs in rhinos, the other two in drop pods, three packs of long fangs in the back with a dreadnought and a wolf guard to back them up, not quite decided on the rest.

So far I'm up to a Lone Wolf, 3x 6-man GH packs (2 in Razors), a 3-man pack of Swiftclaws led by a WP, pack of LFs with a LL-tossing RP adjoined, a pack of Scouts, and a TDA RP with a retinue of 4 WG in TDA embarked in a Land Raider. All led by Bjorn, b/c I squandered my elite slots to allow for more dreads.

I'd like to add another pack of LFs, a Speeder Squadron and an attack bike if I can find the points for it. My problem lately has been getting rid of tank-supported gunlines before I can close in for CQC, so hopefully adding the extra Heavy support will counter-balance the issue.

I definitely don't build my army as most established strategies go.. mostly go by what feels right and how I like to play... so I dunno how competitive it'll be, but oh well.

Here are the rules and scenarios for this year. What do you guys think of the scenarios? I was going to take a lone speeder, but scenraio 3 has me reconsidering it.

Not to be overly critical but do you plan on not using any speeders and giving up the point automatically? Or dropping even more points into a squadron that can still be wiped out relatively easily?

I am using a lone MM speeder and I wasn't happy to see that bonus but I'm not loosing a good gun in the first two battles by over-thinking the missions. In my tournament experience its best to play what you want and let the rest take care of itself. I like what I like and I'm going with that. there is always reserve or boosting around the whole game to get a cover save. at the very least that speeder may attract undue attention and save/delay your tougher stuff from death allowing you to win even if you do give up that bonus.

No, I'm going to keep it, but I really don't like that rule. So I got a little done today, not much but some, and I took pictures!

Land Speeder;

I put some arms on the pilot ( they're from the rhino gunner since I couldn't find the originals). Slapped some shoulderpads on him too, glued on the spoiler, pilots shield, left side MM, then slapped on some bling on the nose. I really wish the land speeder kit fit together better. Now I just need to get my hands on another attack bike stlye multi-melta, and figure out what to do with the gunner, I was thinking a spear, but since my last one broke, I would need to get another command squad box for the banner arm.....

Long Fangs:

I put together the last Lascannon LF to finish out that squad, I still need to slap together five or six plasmacannons, an I think I only got the bits for 3 or 4.

Wolf Guard:

I put together a wolf claw guy, and I put Eldi on some legs, but he isn't done being painted, which will have to wait until everything is assembled.

I was able to pull out a third place, even after making a lot of mistakes.

First round was basically a Mirror Match SW vs SW both sides using very similar lists with 5 Razor GH, 3 long Fangs, 2 Wolf Guard.

We Drew, exact same Kill points, terrain pieces, no traitors. 10 - 10 tie

Second Round I played A Grey Knight Purifier Army, with 5 Dreads, and a Vindicare.

I massacred the Grey Knights, he was never able to close range. 22 - 0

Last Round, I played ORKS, 5 Warwagons, Big Mek, Ghazz, Lottas.

It was a hard fought Battle, ending in another Draw, but I was able to get two Battle Objectives. 12 - 10

I ended with 44 Points, enough to take third and move on to the Semi's.

I just went down to the FLGS, dropped off my list, picked up an attack bike, normal bike, a new fine paintbrush, and a pack of exacto blades. Now all that I need is to mooch a plasma cannon or two from some other players, and the army will be done. Most of it is going to be pretty rough, but it only needs to be assembled not painted. Hopefully I can get some painted before hand, and if I make it semi's, I should have it all looking much better by then.
