Beef
well after my disaster in the Summer's Advance 2011 with my thunder wolves which are still missing a few pieces (my post is at the bottom of the page) http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...1779&st=200 I decided to leave those for a while and finish some Forge world dreds I had lying around. I built the plasma canon one when FW first came out with the Grey knights dreds and the second was built when FW did the Traitor Dreds. I dusted off my airbrush and gave the dreds a spray with Dark sea grey followed by light sea grey as I really like that colour. Once again even after collecting SW from 2n edition I have still after all these years not settled on a colour skeme I like for them I have no problem painting BA, Ultra etc and sticking to one shade for them but i cant for the life of me manage it with my SW. Being on nights I might actually get at least 1 dred done by Monday but hopefully both (excluding snow affect base). This guy will be painted 2nd after i try my hand at the guy below this. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw1.jpg This is the upper half of the dred that is being painted first, has been given a light ink wash. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw2.jpg this pic shows the first coat (after primer and airbrush) of the light see grey colour applied. I will give it another coat after every thing else is done. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw3.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/ Share on other sites

Beef
I have been really busy with work, Family and my English Lit degree. Only time I get now is summer to paint, Heres an update. Sorry about lighting and pic quality, taken on my phone, Also the plasma canon i decided to do the power coils red rather than the standard green which then turned to blue. Maybe next time I will do it Yellow. I did the red glow affect through the front vents but when i gave it a ink wash to darken the metal front end i relised it would soak in so i let it. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw4.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw5.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2844422 Share on other sites
Beef
More progress, I will start the other dred tonight, I need to order some paint to finish this guy off. I need to paint the pelts and skulls. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw7.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw6.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2845070 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
Absolutely reeks of awesome mate. I love Forge World Dreads so much, they are so damn cool they deserve a good paint job. I'm liking the tone of your Space Wolves grey. Very unique and pragmatic themed, which is how I imagine the Sons of the Wolf. Beef
Just waiting on some paint to be delivered for the first dred to be complete, then i can add chips and scrapes and weather it. So whilst i wait for the paint I have started the second dred. Meanwhile any critism on the first dred is appreciated. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw8.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2846119 Share on other sites

Nrthstar
Nova fetter turned into a dread. However, your paint job is great and really draws out the metal details. Just not my choice of color. Beef
Is it me, my phone or the lighting that makes it looks green and not grey? I have used Light sea Grey as the main colour and it has a slight greenish tinge to it when pics are taken, its not so greenish in the Flesh. @ Nrthstar what's Nova Fetter? Beef
looks good Beef! Mav showed me your old SW army that you got rid off, do you ever miss them at all? Which army would that be, I have had so many since 2nd edition, Was it the Pre heresy true scale one I made with fantasy chaos warrior? Or the 13th company Or the standard SW. To be honest I eventually get rid of them because my painting tends to get sligtly better or the newer stuff I paint does not fit in with the old. I do however miss certain marines from those armies, I had some cool conversions which may not have been great from a neat/well modelled perspective But they were fun to make or the idea behind them was cool. All I have painted now is 5 TWC, 10x GH, 10 x BC, 5x scouts 1x drop pod, and these 2 dreds I am working on. Unpainted I have termies (FW ones) loads of wolves and a few special characters lying around. This is what I used to have at one point with my 3 versions of SW armies 20 HQ characters 20 Termies 20 bikes 3 support bikes 8 Dreds 80 GH 80 BC 20 BC with JP 15 scouts 25 Long Fangs 6 LR 6 Preds 10 Rhinos 3 Vidnies 2 razerbacks 4 Leman Russ annilateors suprisingly not 1 drop pod or landspeeder in my previous armies (those were in my ultra or BA armies, so i have downsized quite a bit, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2846787 Share on other sites
Beef
I know some of you will be thinking wow that orange looks bright, I know, I got carried away. In hindsight I should have done the claws in red but oh well http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw9.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/sw10.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2846892 Share on other sites

Silverwolf
Some nice looking models there Beef , not big on that orange though. To me makes them look a bit more the result of the Dorian Heresy then the Horus Heresy :). Any interesting grey though, more of a "real-world" military grey which makes for an interesting look that I've not seen before. How'd you find working with the FW Dreads? Much in the way of warping to any of the parts? Beef
Finally 99% finished this first dred, all it needs is the snow base and a layer of gloss varnish. I have weathered this and done the cracked scheme people do, Although the cracks have not turned out as great as I wanted i have learnt how to do them and will hopefully be happier with the second dreds results. I ordered new paint but the light sea grey that i used originally (tamiya) is not the same as the vallejo version (I possible might have mixed something into the orginal tamiya one. The next thing i do after these dreds will be darker and more relistic grey (if i get the new FW dred) or lighter (white even) if I paint my FW MACHARIUS WITH VULCAN MEGA BOLTER. @ Silverwolf, I agree about the orange, it looks to Chaosy for my liking, Next time I know not to do that. As for FW warping issue I have not experienced it, not on these dreads or on the warhound I bought years ago. Only problem is cutting some of the stuff as it can be quite brittle, you might notice the exhaust pipes at the bottom are slightly broken, I think that was due to me cutting them badly and the brittleness issue. But no way near as brittle as those Philipino THC I bought. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/zee010-1.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/zee011.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/zee012.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/zee013.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/zee014.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2851345 Share on other sites

Beef
So the guy above was looking to bright so i decided to redo it with bronze instead of the orange, Here's the finished model, Just needs basing I will base this dred and the previous one along with some termies and all together, I batch base my models. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00279-20110916-0933.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00280-20110916-0933.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2877073 Share on other sites

Beef
Basically I want to use this dred as Bjorn the Fell-handed. I am going to a tourney and on my list Bjorn will have a TLLC (twin linked Lascannon) This model obviosly only has 2 CC weapons and the tournies needs models to be WYSIWYG. So i decided to add 2 small Lascanons, By having 2 I can at least say they are Twin linked, what I want to know is which option looks better, Option 1 with the lascannons on the shoulders (pics 1- 3) Or Option 2 with the lascannons under the claws. (pics 4-6) I understand that the lascannons under the claws would be impractical from a realism point, BUT just on looks which setup looks better?? I am not bothered by realism just what looks better. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00281-20110917-0808.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00283-20110917-0809.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00282-20110917-0808.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00284-20110917-0809.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00285-20110917-0810.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g320/vittorio_13/IMG00286-20110917-0810.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236078-beef-finally-decides-to-paint-some-sw-dreds/#findComment-2877871 Share on other sites
