Julgolax
How can I do this? I was thinking of making a rebellion of space marines and militiamen who are against the Imperium but also against Chaos so basically this leaves no room for the Imperial Aquila on the chestplate. Has anyone ever seen this done? I dont want to scratch up the Aquila because I want a clean appearance on the chestplates of my squads. If anyone has any tips for doing this quickly and more importantly cleanly, that by all means please tell me. If anyone has any sources for buying prefab chestplates sans-Aquila, even better! I was considering using the greenstuff method but I am honastly terrible at making large things out of greenstuff, and I do consider a chestplate cover "large"... :S As for Crux Terminatus and the Imperial Skull/Winged Skull I would probably like advice on removing those too, I mainly want a force of space marines who are 1/3 pirates, 1/3 saviors, and 1/3 revolutionaries. Sgt. Tiberus Satio
I have always used a hobby knife and slowly formed a smooth layer to do what is needed then file what would be left if any. You could also think of maybe just cutting into the aquilla since they won't be aligned with the Imperium, nor fallen to chaos gods. When I say cut into, just means perhaps make it look chipped/shattered. darth_giles
I got a kit of rat tail files from a model train store. They work pretty well, although curved surfaces can be a pain. Shaving them off might work better to start with. For bigger ones like on the Contemptor Dread, I'd suggest a dremel and dust mask. Julgolax
Well, like I said, I dont want to just mutilate the chest Aquila because that looks bad, is tougher to paint, and is not the look I'm going for. I like the style of the Red Scorpions Maximus pattern armor and that's the sort of thing I want to go for, without having to pay Forgeworld prices and trying to design a chapter with scorpion iconography. I actually would like to do a scorpion chapter, (i know this sounds confusing) but since the name I like most, Star Scorpions is already canon, and they dont exist anymore, I'm left with having to make up my own chapter. As per the topic, files and dremels are the only things? Those are both good ideas but aren't very quick, I'm talking about de-Aquila-ing squads, not single models. I had the idea of using ultra-fine-grade sandpaper or maybe a cloth with plastic-glue on it to "wipe" the Aquila off, but I had to hear it from masters first. Lorenzen
carving off the eagle with a sharp knife then filing it down smooth is going to be your best option.. as long as the blade is sharp it shouldnt be too difficult. as far as making a scorpion related chapter.. is "star scorpions" something you were set on or do you mind removing some of the alliteration by calling them the void scorpions? i dont think void is used enough.. if i wasnt doing an official chapter id be doing a diy called the void jackals. Sgt. Tiberus Satio
You can also make the "Star Scorpions", just play them as if this was BEFORE they were off the map. You can also try a dremel if you have on and use the sander on a low speed to slowly work your way of taking it off. I've done dremelling on metal models and it's worked. Be sure to wear safety goggles/glasses due to even the plastic can be dangerous. Stolid Fox
There are a few torso fronts without any form of Aquilla; have you considered trying to maybe just trade for/cast/etc. those? In particular: http://bitzbarn.com/oscommerce/catalog/pro...roducts_id=4618 and: http://bitzbarn.com/oscommerce/catalog/pro...roducts_id=4617 don't have aquillas. Madcap
If anyone has any sources for buying prefab chestplates sans-Aquila, even better! There are lots of eBay bitz vendors who sell sets of 10 torsos with the different designs. One of my favorite vendors is Blackdagger Games. 100% rating. I have never been disappointed by my bitz orders with this seller. Here is a lot of 10 Mk5 Heresy Strap torsos. But I have seen other lots of just the skull torsos as well. (The Chaos Space Marines have skull only torsos as well, so you can also try searching for those.) If you are willing to pay more, The War Store sells torso lots of the MK7 Single Skull and the MK5 Hersey Strap torsos (I'd go with eBay on this one). I really like eBay for getting the bitz I need for conversions. But if you need to do some symbol removal, slow and steady is the way to go. I modified some AoBR terminators to convert them into plastic obliterators. It takes patience, a sharp hobby knife, and some fine files, but it can be done. The sprue clippers we handy for getting the bulk of the Crux Terminati of the terminators. Just be careful you don't clip too deeply. Jacinda
Fast, cheap, quality. Pick any two. It's this way for just about anything in life. Seleucus
Slow and careful with the knife and file is the only way to go I am afraid - I've been there! A dremel is likely to melt the plastic. GSing over the aquila is messy and bulks them out too much. You could also incorporate parts from CSM and Khorne Berserker marines, removing the arrows instead of the aquilas. These give a more ancient, ornate feel to some of the figures, and helps to differentiate them from 'loyalists' without making them chaos. Commander S. Caesare
With this in mind, just use the knife and file, just shave it off! Or, did what my friend John did. Vice chest piece with a portable one and use a desander. Watch your fingers and ricocheting items of plastic! thade
I'm with Jacinda et al; Xacto + file + patience = smooth chest plate. The one with just the skull on it would be easy street to get plain. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236161-how-can-i-remove-aquilas-nicely-and-quickly/#findComment-2846006 Share on other sites
