Motorbike Mike
Afternoon my brothers, As I said in an earlier thread, its been a fair while sicne Ive had anything to do with the hobby. I've recently started painting again and I now feel like I fancy some getting back into gaming. I've never been a particularly big player and most of my games in the past were pretty small, due to me having a small army. The hobby to me has always been painting, I'd buy anything to paint as long as it looked/could be made to look awesome. I'll list what Wolves I own and if you fine ladies and gentlemen could help me flesh out what I own into an army list of around 1500/2000 points, I'd be very grateful. Wolf Priest w/Bolt Pistol. Wolf Guard Battle Leader Terminator w/Storm Bolter Power Weapon. 4x Wolf Guard Terminators w/ Thunder Hammer + Storm Shield. Heavy Flamer + Chainfist. Frost Blade + Storm Shield. Pair of Wolfclaws. 5x Wolf Scouts 4x Sniper Rifles Missile Launchers Venerable Dreadnought w/ Assault Cannon + Combat Claw. Lone Wolf w/Thunder Hammer + Storm Shield. 10x Grey Hunters. w/ 2x Plasma Guns. Power Weapon. 5x Grey Hunters. w/Plasma Gun Power Weapon. Land Raider Redeemer w/ Multi Melta. 5x Long Fangs 4x Missile Launchers. Predator Destructor. w/Heavy Bolters. As I said, I never really played much, I won a few small games and lost a few. But i'd quite like to get into competetive playing over the next few months. Also, I ride a motorcyle (as my name suggests) and would quite like to add in some Bikes to my army, do you think they could fit into a viable army list? thanks, Motorbike Mike. Blacksad
bikes in a wolflist? why not? I recently bought the ravenwing battleforce to adapt into a more wolfish pack. should give enough and at a reasonable price to get a good list going. I wouldn't have thought of doing that. I'll check it out when I pop in to town tomorrow, thanks brother. Motorbike Mike. Vantius
I'll give you a good reason to use bikes: You have 4 elites, when you are only allowed 3. Swap out the dread for a few bikes and it will make you list legit and more well rounded. Check out littlbitz' swiftclaw tactica. It has some really good info on how to make them very effective. Cheers bruv' I wouldn't use all of my models in one game, it was just a list of what I own. But I do agree about swapping out the Dread. I usually found that most of my army was pretty slow getting stuck in without transports. I purchased a Drop Pod yesterday evening with the intention of sticking some Grey Hunters in it. Would you recommend Pods for my other squads or Rhinos? 'Cause surely if i'm going to add in Bikes, I'd be better off making the rest of the army quicker? Thanks, Motorbike Mike. The bikes can add the mobility your army may be lacking. though, it is nice to be able to have units move and support each other. transport choices are preference, but i would recommend starting with rhinos. they get the job done. for cheap. Motorbike Mike
So I've been away and had a tinker with a list or two and this is what I came up with. I read through Littlbitz' post on Swiftclaws and found it rather helpful - if rather long winded. HQ Wolf Priest - 100 Wolf Priest - 135 + SM Bike ELITES 3x Wolf Guard - 144 + SM Bike, Power Fist, Melta Bombs, Combi-Melta + Power Fist, Combi-Melta + Bolt Pistol/Combat Blade Lone Wolf - 60 + Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Rifleman Dreadnought - 125 + 2x TL Autocannons TROOPS 8x Blood Claws - 155 + Flamer + Rhino 10x Grey Hunters - 210 + Power Fist + Flamer + Meltagun + Rhino 10x Grey Hunters - 210 + Power Fist + Flamer + Meltagun + Rhino FAST ATTACK 4x Swiftclaw Bikers - 165 + Meltagun + Power Fist + Heavy Bolter Attack Bike Land Speeder Tornado - 70 + Multi-Melta HEAVY SUPPORT 5x Long Fangs - 115 + 4x Rocket Launchers TOTAL - 1489 Edit: Dropped the Speeder to a Tornado and added in the extra Wolf Guard to make the list legal. Gave him a BP/CCW and decided to roll him with the Long Fangs. Reason for this is, he can act as, dare I say it; Cannon Fodder. Giving my heavy weapons more time to shoot. Also, in an assault he'll give an extra 3 attacks should they get charged. Still have 10 points going begging, unsure of whether or not to just add a Wolf Standard to one squad of Grey Hunters or not. What do you guys think? thanks, Motorbike Mike. Vantius
I say use those left over points for combi meltas n the wolf guard. And perhaps drop the typhoon down to a tornado and use the points for some much needed wolf standards. Other than that it looks good. Yeah I'll stick some in on the Wolf Guard fellas. Are Wolf Standards any good? I like the idea of them, because it means that I get to paint up fancy standard bearers. But with regards to gaming, are they worth the points? Motorbike Mike. Forté
Bad news...you only have 2 Wolf Guard. Minimum is three. Another little tinker needed, sorry. Helps with hitting, wounding, saving, assault movement through difficult terrain, rolls to determine number of Mark of the Wulfen attacks, rolls for Ragnar's extra attacks, etc., etc. Every Grey Hunter pack should have a Wolf Standard.
