Loki-LaughingDeath
Okay a couple weeks ago I was venting about a new league, a map escalation league.... weellll it's now turn 4 and I decided to go for the throat and win it all.... small problem is that I have 4 battles to take care of and 2 of them are against Grey Kiniggits. I need a little advice on what I should bring to the table, we DO have to follow force allotment rules. Battle 1 is 525 points of Wolves against 310 points of Guard. My biggest concern is the stupid Manticore.... these have a nasty tendency to ruin my day and I am looking at maybe dropping a pod in with a unit to wreck his day.... Battle 2 is 1000 points of Wolves against 250 points of Kiniggits..... Battle 3 is 525 points of Wolves against 370 points of Tau... Looking at the deep strike with flamers to take care of this one. Battle 4 is 1000 Points of Wolves against 850 points of Kiniggits and 400 points of Nids. This is the battle that has me the most concerned. I know that the Nid player is going after the Kiniggits.... I bribed him 20 bucks to do so :D But I still don't feel comfortable with the points. I would have liked to have had at least another unit to bring to the table. I could use some advice on this because 1st place is 95 bucks... well 75 after I pay off the Nid player. Loki-LaughingDeath
Battle 2 is over without rolling the dice, Taylor, great guy surrendered....I think. I don't think that he realizes the ramifications of his actions. So that's one down... Got the IG battle tonight then I just have to arrange the Tau and 3 Way. I am still stoked about this especially if I can pull off the hat trick! Loki-LaughingDeath
Soooo I got in Battle 1 with the IG last night. We are allowed to give out sportsmanship points but seeing as how this was the second player that I fought against I think that he will get them. I went with this list Tyr the Younger with Living Lightning and Murderous Hurricane. Sons of the Tempest 6 Grey Hunters with a Plasma Gun in a Rhino. The Bloody Maw 6 Grey Hunters Cormac Red Rain the Wolf Bitten(mark of the Wulfen) and Wolf Standard in a Razor Back with Heavy Bolters. The Marauding Hunt 6 Grey Hunters with a melta gun in a Drop Pod. His list made me sweat more than a little Gold Squad Command Squad with a Lascannon and the CO has a Power Fist and some sort of protective field thinggy. Blue Squad 10 Veterans with an Auto Cannon and 3 Plasma Guns. Red Squad 10 Veterans with 3 Melta Guns. We set up a pretty decent table and rolled for Mission and got Capture and Control with the 12 inch Deployment Zone. I placed my objective near the middle of my deployment zone tempting him to come and get it. He placed his hidden behind terrain in the FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK left corner. I got first turn and we were off. I deployed the Tyr and the Sons in the rhino behind some rocks close to my objective. The Bloody Maw was deployed in their Razorback on the left behind cover. The Marauding Hunt was waiting in orbit.. There was a lookout tower where He had placed his objective and Gold and Blue squad took possession of it. Red Squad was further to the right behind some rocks to try a run at my objective. Well The Marauders dropped in to say HIIIIII! and were a little off scattering to the edge of the table but still in range of the Guardsmen in the tower after disembarking from the pod. The Razor Back moved up for a better firing solution. Tyr and the Sons disembarked from the Rhino and moved into some rocks for cover while taking control of my objective. The Marauders and the Razor back opened fire on Gold Squad. The Major was the only survivor much to my dismay with one last wound remaining. The major rushed over to Blue Squad and started to barking orders. Blue squad unleashed a torrent of lasgun fire...auto cannon shells and waaaaay to many plasma bolts for my tastes while Red Squad moved over to eliminate the Pod... 1 wolf fell to Las Fire (WEEEAAAAK!) and 4 more dropped to plasma, the last survivor taking a plasma bolt to the face that had been set to TAN! The driver of the Razor Back smashed the gas and popped smoke and moved up. The driver of the Rhino did the same thing. Tyr summoned the Power of the storm....but wasn't paying attention, so only 1 guardsmen fell after 5 hits(I rolled 4 1s). The lone survivor shot down another guardsman then charged the commander, however he must have been partially blinded by the plasma bolt he just survived because he failed to hit. Then the CO pimp smacked the Hunter with the power fist for 3 wounds. The Major barked out orders and 5 hits later the razorback has taken a beating from blue squads plasma and auto cannon, however the hard rain only managed to shake the vehicle. Red squad ran over and blew up the Drop Pod showing blue squad with shrapnel... that was lethal to the auto cannon loader. Cormac Red Rain ordered the Maw out of the Razor Back sensing that their prey was close. They moved through the difficult terrain with ease. Tyr inflicted a couple of casualties with Living Lightning... and then the Bloody Maw charged while the Totem Bearer urged them to greater deeds. Bran inflicted a massive 5 casualties on the veteran guardsmen himself, while the rest of the squad brought down the remaining guardsmen and the major. Red Squad moved in to take revenge and opened fire, the melta guns taking down 2 members of the pack, then in a act of insane bravery they figured 8 guardsmen could take 4 Wolves. Ooooops! Cormac Red Rain lead the counter attack that swarmed the guardsmen and laid them to sleep in red mud. I had initially planned to keep track of my dice rolling but that went out the window, with the exception of the really good rolls, difficult terrain, the couple of LL rolls that were 6 and the 7 and 8 attacks generated by MOW. I think that I am going to use this list against the 370 points of Tau as well.... maybe with a few tweaks! Silverwolf
haha, a nice entertaining little write-up there Loki, and Loki by name, Loki by nature I think :). Tau should be fairly easy at that points level if they have to follow force organisation, at a guess it'll be a XV8 FireKnife Commander, with 2 units of Firewarriors, maybe some kroot. Bit more points and you'd have a Railhead to watch out for. 850 GK can probably take a Brother Captain, with 2 teams of troops in Razors + Rifleman dread. For 1000 points, I'd be taking something like a Saga of the Hunter WGBL with scouts for dealing with the Dread, a Vindi with siege shield, 2x GH with Plasma & Las/plas Razor, and LFs with Missiles (2x Las or Plasma if you can afford it). If you've the spare points, take the WGPLs with Combi Meltas and Power Swords. Don't use MotW against GKs, I'd replace with Power Weaps instead, and a perhaps even a Power Weap on the WGPL instead of a Power Fist. Fight fire with fire. Good luck with the rest of the games  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236208-map-league-turn-4-tactics/#findComment-2849498 Share on other sites
