Long fang pack leader

Recommended Posts

I run my Long Fangs as a very heavy fire base...

Depending upon the points decides the number of LC and if the leader gets a flamer.

In Hard Boyz' I used the following loadout:

~ 330 pts each squad

Wolf Guard Pack Leader

. . 1 Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour Terminator Armour; Power Weapon; Storm Bolter; Cyclone Missile Launcher;

Long Fangs Pack Lascannon x2; Missile Launcher x3;

. . 1 Squad Leader Flamer x1

Dedicated Transport

. . 1 Razorback Hunter Killer Missile; Twin Linked Lascannon

Long Fangs work best when they never move and fire every turn, i know thats a shocking statement.

I know I am wierd, and just about the only one to use HKM's but in my experience if you have enough, like 11, and get a first turn alpha strike, unless you are going against AV14, you can expect your opponent to have 2-3 fewer tanks after first round of shooting. The HKM's and LF's were wildly successful in almost Tabling a GK-Purifier army, and with the GK never getting close to assault range.

But, everyone hates Long Fangs, so expect either a ton of return fire, or someone will try to assault them. Thats where the Flamer comes in handy. You could keep another squad back to protect them, but I prefer not tasking a squad for that use.

Yesterday at Hardboyz, 3 such long fang squads, took a charge by 36 orks. While I lost all but 3 Long Fangs, they were able to tie up those boyz, and met out enough punishment that 6 wolf guard with SB's could finish them off.

@Silverwolf: that would be difficult, as i see so many things i want to add, but cant do to sig size...and Marshal Willy's post are almost always comedic gold. I mean, Templars being better than Wolves, how nuts is that?!

My pack leaders haven't got anything, although the heavy bolter squad that I have sitting on my painting desk will have a power fist (they're an assault Long Fang pack) and I'll probably throw a Wolf Guard in there with another power fist.

Might as well send the old chap in with a bit of respite, eh what?

with the amount of post edits you do, are you a fan of fox news?

If Longfangs are in cc i think something went wrong than.

Last five games I played my longfangs have ended up in CC... Depending on mission deployment your opponent can often get to you pretty quick. Possibly I have not protected them properly with other units, but I dont like babysitting them. In one game my LFs were charged by a unit of Berserkers, I thought they were going down pretty fast but my opponent had skimped on points and hadnt given the champ any power weapons... My packleader had a Power sword , took 3 turns,some jammy saves, and some casualties but my long fangs won the combat. Yes I would have preferred them laying down fire and doing their job, but it was sweet to see my opponents face as the last berserker bit the dust. Also one of my regular opponents uses Deamons and there's no way I ever avoid CC with them. Im not one for writing uber army lists designed to win, but tend to Model my wolves in poses and with equipment that I think looks good and in games I use units that I fancy using or feel a bit fluffy. I do like to add a wolf guard for an ablative wound when the points allow - thought about the wolfguard in Terminator armour with Cyclone, seemed like a lot of points. How effective is this?
