Chalx the grey
I was wandering what u guys think of the viability of maxing out in characters for a semi-competitive 2000 pt tournament and going footslogging. To be more specific, the plan is going with Logan, 2 rune priests and a wolf priest on a bike. The two rune priests (both with LL) may team up with Logan and his Tank Hunter USR to blast enemy tanks from the rear or side via drop pod, maybe teaming up for a cyclone missile launcher to max effect while keeping mobility. The biker WP ofc has a biker retinue with a couple of PF, and the army also has two full GH packs with WG, and a third min size GH squad for base objecive camping. Rounding the whole thing would be a pack of missile log fangs, a pack of scouts, a small termie squad with the pod (ofc with enough space for logan and priests) and a fully kitted Lone Wolf with pets. The list has 51 infantry models and a pod, which is not too much, but has some mobility in the form of bikes + scouts + drop pod, 4 scoring units, and very little kill points. Logan and battle-specific WG distribution make it also quite flexible in tactics, and the biker squad has proven hell to static enemy support firepower (the wolf priest here is important to boost the unit and make it inmune to morale issues). It is also pretty assault oriented, much to the Great Wolf liking. I know most probable answer is "you need more GHs and LFs to make footslogging viable" but the list already has almost all infantry models I own and the tourney is at the end of august so that is out of the question, it is either this or back to my usual mech approach with dreads. In fact the herohammer build is the only way I have to get to 2000 pts without tanks :-) Let me emphasize the torney is not WAAC and min/max net lists, though there are some... skoll
What does your hearth of hearths tell you? therein lies the answer to what you seek. Remember statistically stuff happens, it is your ability as a general to adapt and bring your forces to bear that matters, I've seen razor spam get crushed by IG lists using disparate things like ogryns grey knight squads lose combat to a single dark angels sergeant and so on. Think not of math hammer. That is my random inspirational advice of the day. Also your list seems viable at least. Remember the battlefield is your friend but it may also be a cold mistress. Gen. Confusion
This just might work. You should have just enough mobility with the swiftclaws, drop pod and wolf scouts to get across the board and contest. That is the main flaw with foot sloggers, getting where they need to be when they need to be. Chalx the grey
Very good point there skull, my hearth does tell me that Logan and his rune priest council will lead my army to victory, in that regard I think I'm covered! Good to hear some positive comments so far, I think the list does bring out some underused infantry options for the wolves. We'll see how it goes, I will try to post at least a picture of the complete roster when I finish the wolf priest, who is now in the oven. Quillen
Hearth? Are you a bunch of warp touched heathens needing to be purged. Why are you looking in a fire place to find what you believe. Why look at the flames? Have you guys fallen to chaos? Now if you listen to your heart! It might tell you something worth hearing. Mine is telling me I am still alive right now. Good solid thumps in there. Which tells me it's time for ALE!!! Bring me some ale!. *Stumbles away from the fireplace* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236438-all-infantry-herohammer-viable/#findComment-2849713 Share on other sites

Wysten
Help him out some more people. Lolz Depends really, all armies need mobility if they don't have supression. While your hero hammer unit is very elite, it will need to be guarded well since it's a lot of eggs in one basket, you would have to place yourself well not to lose most of your army, probably using the drop pod as cover on one side. You really don't want Logans squad in melee as it will interfear with your ability to shoot and Rune Priests are barely better then a power weapon weilding marine in melee. Though a nasty suprise to bombard troublesome unit, before bringing up the rest of your small force to support. Problem is, theres not a single tank in the game that would require a 600+ unit to shoot at it. Chalx the grey
Of course the Logan + priests shooting galore is just an option if I can land the pod on the side of a Leman Russ or something of that sort, otherwise another deployment seems more reasonable. I also like to have Logan given relentness to plasma hunter squads or to long fangs to bring them into position. Or just drop him with WG close to a flank and go to town - it's a bit suicidal but with bike support I think it can be done, certainly takes some pressure out of the GHs! Anyways I think I'll go with it, I'll let u know how the tourney goes next week and how did Logan do!
