Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Developer Q&A

We're running a Q&A with Relic for Space Marine and we want your questions!

Any questions that you have for the developers about Space Marine simply post in this thread.

You've got until Tuesday 23rd August 5pm GMT to get your questions in when we'll then collate the best questions and send them over to Relic to answer.

Once we have the answers we'll post back the full Q&A here. :)

When will the Co-op mode be released for DLC if it does not ship with the game?

Does certain armor do anything except change your cosmetics?

Will there be Combi-Bolters in the game?

Will Campaign be Co-op?

Thanks for doing this guys, I've been dying to know these lol!

Do your marines "level up" in versus mode? In the campaign?

What things change as your marine levels up? Base statistics (movement speed, striking strength, accuracy, etc), available weapon upgrades?

Is the versus more like DoW2's Campaign where one character may dwarf another due to equipment? Or is it more like DoW2's Last Stand, where even a character with a few upgrades can be effective and make a difference in a fight?

Are there power ups that drop, like in Kill Teams?

How many maps in Versus mode?

Will map editing/creation be available for players?

Will new Versus maps be released from time to time? Will these be free or pay-for DLC?

What is the penalty for death in a Versus match?

Are all versus matches kill-point based? Or will there be objectives? Like capture points, capture the flag, king of the hill, etc?

Are there any plans for other "playable" races (i.e. Orks, etc.)?

Are there any planned DLC in the near future?

What was the biggest inspiration for the setting/focus of the game?

Will Terminators be playable in future DLC's?

Are there any plans for other side projects like Kill team to support future Relic releases?

Why were such basic iconic Space Marine weapons as the Flamer, Missile Launcher, and Power Fist seemingly omitted from the game?

Any plan to add those and the other missing weapons into the game in the future?

Are there plans to add Terminators, Scouts, Techmarines, Librarians, and/or Apothecaries to the multiplayer in the future? These seem like obvious additions with obvious roles to fulfill.

When in the Warhammer 40,000 timeline does this game take place?

Is there a way to make a "commander" character, with abilities to buff teammates (e.g. Litanies Of Hate, Battle Cry, etc)? I'd love to be a Sergeant with a back banner that passively makes all of my nearby teammates run a bit faster, or a Chaplain who can preach his Litanies Of Hate and make nearby teammates do extra melee damage.

Are the multiplayer maps interactive at all, or are they just pretty places to run around with a couple of objectives sitting on them?

I mean, are there blast doors you can try and seal, or bridges you can retract to divert the enemy down another path/slow them down? Are there environmental hazards in multiplayer?

Are there any sort of in-battle rewards for kill streaks?

How many multiplayer maps will there be initially?

I know I'm not alone in thinking this is a painfully obvious omission to the ways we could be playing in the 40k universe, so how long until you guys tackle the holy grail of Warhammer 40,000 games - a "PlanetSide-esque" MMOFPS? Make it happen, guys!

How pleased are you with the overall positive response from Space Marine and its demo?

How many of the Development team are fans of the genre or hobbyists?

What sort of support can we expect for the Multiplayer/Versus side of the game in terms of patches and DLC?

Do you think there may be a sequel game if this does well?

Thanks for taking the time to do this :D

Interesting. Well, they answered the least useful of my questions...

It's horribly obnoxious how they keep avoiding the question everyone wants an answer to - where does Titus fit in with the history of the Ultramarines?

It's clear that they have no idea.:)

And the far more interesting questions of mine that they ignored.... NOT giving reasons they didn't do something implies to me that maybe there ISN'T a reason, and they could be quietly considering those things for futures additions to the game. That'd be super awesome.

They could be saying a lot with their silence.

TEC - are you ever positive about ANYTHING? ;)

I think its great that they have took the time to answer our questions, not all developers do this.

Many thanks THQInsider and the team :)

Uh.... Yes.

I'm positive that Ventris is an idiot.

But seriously, did you read what I wrote? I'm actually a fairly optimistic person.

I took their non-responses as meaning that perhaps my questions contained ideas they hadn't specifically nixed and were perhaps considering for future DLC/expansions/sequels. ;)

After all, why bother giving any excuse at all, like "We chose not to include Terminators because they were game breaking", or something of the sort when you can just quietly forget to answer the question and add "include Terminators" to your to-do list?

If Terminators WERE game breaking and they didn't know how to include them, it'd be just as easy to tell fans "We don't know how to add them into the game quite yet, so we're holding off until we figure it out" and everyone would be happy with that.

Sort of see what I'm saying?

Companies get respect for saying "we don't know how/we hadn't thought of that/we tried and it didn't work"

They lose respect for saying "we have no plans for that" and then doing exactly THAT a month later. (e.g. Apple)

They annoy people when they say "that's coming soon!" and then nothing ever comes of it (e.g. Half-Life 2:Episode 3)

They make people happy when they say "that's coming soon!" and it DOES come soon.

They lose nothing if they make no comment and nothing comes out.

They make a lot of people happy if they say nothing and then suddenly release exactly what everyone wanted. <---------This is what I've chosen to hope. Positive ;)
