Olgerth Istaarn
I want to model a chainsword that is not being held (so I can model it as sheathed, like it appears in the Space Marine videogame). I need a clean hilt though. Besides the Combat Blade, are there any other bits I could creatively nick a suitable hilt from? Warsmith Aznable
You could try cutting the hand out, drilling a hole through the remaining hilt, and then putting a piece of 1/16th tubing through. Bracks0682
If I remember there are some good parts on the SW sprues Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236795-chainsword-without-a-hand/#findComment-2854270 Share on other sites
Durus
You could put a pin into the sword, wrap some more wire around it and add the pommel from a combat blade or normal chainsword. 2nd edition special weapons sprue came with loose chainswords and the ones from the IF Supremacy Force are now sold in the IF bitzpack. Warsmith Aznable
Or if you know anybody who plays Chaos Marines (and you don't want to spring for that really cool IF bits sprue) the Khorne Berserkers box comes with a dozen swords in scabbards that you could cut the handle off of one. They give you way more of those things than you could reasonably want to use, so any CSM player probably has a bunch laying about. KhorneHunter57x
Sanguinary Guard swords (or Glaives Encarmine, if you want me to be that specific  ) have a really long hilt that works pretty well if you cut it off right below the hand. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures right now (but I can try to take one if you really want to see it), but I did this for my Apothecary. Sgt. Tiberus Satio
Chainswords are usually never in a sheath, they are mag-locked to the marine. So I suggest finely cutting the hand, then greenstuffing a replacement handle to hilt. Power swords on the other hand are in sheaths and are activated normally, similar to a chainsword. madscuzzy
Other options are to use long handled weapons like the company champion sword, or long pole based weapons like thunderhammers. GS can be tricky but is a good alternative. Or you could carefully lathe the details on if you have a dremel or rotary tool. Warsmith Aznable
I found these "post apocalyptic rippers" by a company called Kromlech on ebay. Out of Poland, you get six swords for about $10, 4 chain swords and 2 power swords. I haven't heard of the place before, but some of the sculpts look familiar. Spacefrisian
The old assaultmarine box also had chainswords without hands holding them, but they are old i should remind you heck even had marine arms holding laspistols.
