Arkangilos
Founding: 2nd Geneseed: Rogal Dorn Father Chapter: Imperial Fist Origins Shortly after the Horus Heresy, the Legions were broken down into smaller chapters in an event to be remembered as the second founding. It was in this founding that the Purifiers were formed from lineage of the Fists and Dorn. Being from the Imperial Fists, the Purifiers were trained by a cadre of Imperial Fists, a group a highly experienced veterans, who had survived the Siege of Terra. They had brought with them a wide knowledge of siege warfare, and defensive fortifications. Yet, this is not all that they brought. They brought with them a fiery hatred of all that stood against the Emperor, namely those followers of the Chaos Gods, and they brought with them the shame of failure. In the opening days of the chapter's history, they had made way to the Eye of Terror, slaughtering all those traitors who had dared stand against them, and had survived the scouring. With fire and flame, they had purified the worlds that had harbored such evil, and soon they were rightly feared. However, their acts of vengeance did not stop there. After several hundred years, Abbadons first Black Crusade was launched, an the Purifiers immediately set out to fight against his armies. When the combined forces of the Imperium defeated Abaddon, the Purifiers' first, second, and fourth companies followed him into the Eye. For ten years they were not heard from, until eventually a single ship found its way back through the Cadian Gate. The ship, which had carried their chapter master, had linked back up with the fleet of the Purificers, who had proceded to destroy it, along with its crew. They did so, because it bore the mark of failure, just as their fathers. Beliefs With the training cadre of the Imperial Fists came a sense of shame and defeat. It is true, that their line had held the Imperial Palace, and it is true that their line was instrumental in saving the Imperium. However, it was also true to them, that their line had failed to protect the Emperor, and that it was their fault that the Sanguinius had died, and that the Emperor had been gravely wounded. It is because of this that their kind shuns their line. They do not celebrate the holidays of the Imperial Fists. They do not go to the aid of their brother chapters of Dorn. They do not even attempt to communicate with them. They hold in their beliefs that Dorn was the greatest failure of those who had remained loyal, and they strive to earn forgiveness for both their leige and their chapter. Because of their hatred of Dorn's failures and of the way of the Imperial Fists, they do not make use of their rituals. The Pain Glove has been banned from their vessels, and no relic of Dorn is to be used by any of their heroes. However, they also hold it in their beliefs that thye will be free of their guilt and their fathers failure in the end, during what they call the Time of Burning. This time to them is when a great fire will spring forth from Terra and purify all that was tainted, and defeat those who stand against Him. This day is a day they all pray for, and when it comes they will unlock the Reliquary of Dorn. In order to prepare for the Great Burning, they ritualistically place their right hand into a Flames of Righteousness and hold it there until their skin begins to blister and burn, only then will it be pure enough to use the weapons of the chapter. When one ages and moves up the ranks, they also begin purifying the rest of their bodies in the Flames of Righteousness. Doctrines The Purifiers value the weapons of flame and heat that can boil away the taint. Before they begin an invasion, they rain down fire and plasma, killing all who reside in zone of their attacks. They care not for the Imperial citizens in the area, for they reside in the Taint, and only a clensing fire can save their souls. Then, they rain from the sky, armed with Flamers and Plasma weaponry. They do not worry about who they burn, so long as the Taint is destroyed. This has caused many commanders fear when calling for their aid, but even they can not deny the effectiveness of these space marines. However, their doctrines are very inflexible, and so their casualties are often higher than the more flexible chapters. -------------------------------------------------------- Well, that is what I've got so far. Donkey Kong
Your timeline needs work. The Third Founding occurs at the beginning of M32. Meanwhile, the First Black Crusade occurs at 781.M31, over two hundred years earlier, but nbd. Just to add to all of this, your veteran cadre would be about a thousand years old, you know, provided they were neophytes at the siege of Terra, which, by the way, would have probably led to them becoming Crimson Fists during the Second Founding. Alternatively, they could be veterans, the only real circumstance under which they would have survived the Siege, survived the Iron Cage, and still remained a part of the Imperial Fist Chapter, which all just strains the suspension of disbelief. Not to burst your bubble, but, the Great Scouring happened more or less immediately after the Siege of Terra, so: "In the opening days of the chapter's history, they had made way to the Eye of Terror, slaughtering all those traitors who had dared stand against them. With fire and flame, they had purified the worlds that had harbored such evil, and soon they were rightly feared." Yeah, that was more or less done already. Mostly by the Ultramarines. Their beliefs also make no sense if your training cadre consisted of Imperial Fist veterans. Hating Rogal Dorn and all other Imperial Fist successors? Imperial Fist veterans remained a part of the Imperial Fist Chapter. They were soldiers loyal to Dorn. If the training cadre was at the siege, the deaths of the Emperor and Sanguinius would also be their fault, not to mention all of those Custodians and Blood Angels that were there failing to save the Emperor. Dorn's relics are also more or less with the first Imperial Fist successors, the Imperial Fists: the Fist of Dorn, the Black Templars: the Sword of the High Marshals, the Crimson Fists: Dorn's Arrow, and, if you believe that the Soul Drinkers belong, the Soulspear. So, if you like, you could try to make up some other weapon that's being kept away until the Time of Burning. So, let's back up. What are your inspirations? What are the Purifies supposed to be? Culture? Beliefs? All you have right now is bad history. They took it with them, and it spread, eventually causing hatred. Originally they did not shun contact with the fists, but as the newer generations came in and the whole, "its our fault" attitude caused a drift, and eventually they said, "No, we are done with you until we have redemed Dorn." Edited++ Or do you think I should do a later founding and say that they dislike the Imperial Fists because of their failures. Either way, I want a chapter of Fists that hates the Imperial Fists (well, hate is a strong word...) Originally they did not shun contact with the fists, but as the newer generations came in and the whole, "its our fault" attitude caused a drift, and eventually they said, "No, we are done with you until we have redemed Dorn." Okay. That is not the solution I had in mind. General consensus in the Liber states that the Second Founding is off limits. Even without that general consensus, remember when I said "if you want to believe that the Soul Drinkers belong"? Lots of people, me included, do not like the Soul Drinkers for, what we effectively believe to be, butting in the Imperial Fist's Second Founding Chapters. Ie: The veterans became the Imperial Fists, the most zealous became the Black Templars, and the newest marines became the Crimson Fists, and then Ben Counter said the planetary assault company became the Soul Drinkers. Remember everything Dorn's Legion went through before the Second Founding: Going through Warp Storms to reach Terra, defending the Emperor's Palace from 7 Traitor Legions, and fighting in the Iron Cage. The Imperial Fists did not have the numbers to found more chapters than they did. Like I said, write out what you want to do before you do it. Everything is easier when you have a plan. Arkangilos
I can't wait to see what CMID has to say about this. :) Me too. Whatever he says is what I am going to change, as this chapter is for him :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236894-an-end-of-the-quest-edited-23-aug/#findComment-2855691 Share on other sites
