TennisBall
I was looking at their entry in lexicanum and it stated that after their Primarch and the Morlocks were wiped out on Istvaan 5 that they had little to do with the Heresy wars. Surely they would have fought? If they hadn't then they'd have been at near full strength when the second founding took place and they would have had a lot of successors but this doesn't seem to be the case. Has this been covered anywhere? Also, what happened to the fleets of the Salamanders and Raven Guard? Did they stick around during the battle or did they leave? or were they destroyed/forced to retreat by the traitor fleets of the Iron Warriors etc? Clewz
I believe most of their fleet were wiped out by the traitors. As for the iron hands age of darkness might help to shed bit of light Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236977-did-the-iron-hands-fight-during-the-heresy/#findComment-2857029 Share on other sites
Codicier Lucion
Age of Darkness does show the Iron Hands were still fighting and performing hit and run attacks upon the traitors. Most of their fleet took heavy damage with an engagement with the Emperor's Children and was undergoing repairs when we last saw them in Fulgrim. That might account for their absence for most of the Heresy. Ironwrought Huw
Ferrus Manus and the Veterns of the legion - they were the only Iron Hands to take part at the Istvaan (Isstvan?) drop site massacre and were the majority of the losses that the legion received. The only heresy-era action I've read of is the Battle of Tallarn. The biggest tank battle in Imperial History, the IH, Imperial Fists and elements of imperial army fighting the Iron Warriors. 'Victory' for the loyalists, but Tallarn was turned into a desert waste-land. Numbers are not given, but Index Astartes IV (The Predator) states that both the loyalist legions deployed a very large number of tanks. The were 'Down but not out'. BassWave
The real reason why no one hears much of the Iron Hands after Istvaan is because for some reason GW almost completely ignores the Iron Hands fan community and decides not to flesh them out, to the point where they are barely represented in the current codex :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/236977-did-the-iron-hands-fight-during-the-heresy/#findComment-2859929 Share on other sites
Brother-chaplain Astador
When Ferrus Mannus received word about the massing at Istvaan, he was ahead of his fleet with only his first company, in his rage he didn't wait for the rest of his legion and dropped in, they were killed to a man.
