Grimtooth
I was wondering about a themed list, that as I played would become another Space Wolves company. Envision an escalation league type army, but with a theme tossed in. Entire Great Company is decimated. Company is ordered to reform with what they can salvage and some armored support. Wolf Priest Wolf Guard Battle Leader Wolf Guard Battle Leader Blood Claws x15 Blood Claws x15 Blood Claws x15 Swiftclaw Biker Pack x5 Predator Predator So as I play them, losing and winning, I just kinda keep track in my head of notable accomplishments and "escalate" those units. So for example, as the Blood Claws get blooded in combat, some from each pack become Grey Hunters. Later on Grey Hunters, formerly Blood Claws, become Wolf Guard. And so on and so on. Thoughts? littlbitz
This sounds like loads of fun. Creating your own Saga for your miniatures, and promoting them to Wolfguard for great in-game deeds and what not. Great idea! I would love to read about the progress too, so be sure to post about your conquests! JoeVmt
Sounds like an awesome idea. Just one thing though, since wolf guard battle leaders are veteran wolf guards, would not that throw the whole point off? Maybe you should stick to only the wolf priests because he is the one who decides which bloodclaw is worthy of a promotion and so on. Keep us posted on what is happening! I was thinking more along the lines that what Grey Hunters were left were made into Wolf Guard Pack Leaders, what Wolf Guard were left were promoted to WGBL. The majority of the Blood Claws would be new members of this Great Company, maybe a couple blooded, but not enough to make a Grey Hunter pack. Silverwolf
Well considering how the Space Wolf pack "advancement" works, you could have say a Blood Claw that does exceptionally well, become a WGPL for said Blood Claw squad. Keep track of how each Blood Claw pack performs, and as a pack achieves a certain amount of objectives (set by yourself), then that pack as a whole drops a few members (counted as attrition through said battles) and becomes a Grey Hunter pack instead. If there was a WGPL on that BC squad, it becomes one on the GH squad, and if another model in that squad demonstrates exceptional skill, promote it to a WGPL and it takes over the WGPL duties of another squad. Once you get enough WG, you can field a WG squad, and as Grey Hunters achieve a certain level of objectives, they are able to become Long Fangs. By the same token, you could have one of the WGBL become the new Wolf Lord after achieving some great accomplishment. Love the idea :P, great basis for a campaign actually. Would be a great campaign idea if I had enough friends with disposable income to start up another army. Hahahahahah! Silverwolf
lol, well maybe just keep a tally going in this thread? Edit your first post for to add a tally of special kills made by each squad, and/or specific members, and keep track that way. Then maybe have members of the Fang vote whether Squad Member X should become WG or not, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237042-decimated-great-company/#findComment-2858120 Share on other sites
Forté
Would love to see your opponents confused face when you set up so many BC without GH. Love the idea and the WGBL fit well as two last remaining original wolves. You could even excuse a few lone wolves too. hendrik
you do know space wolves normally advance through the ranks in their pack right, so the pack starts off as bloodclaws and as the years advance and they start taking casualties the pack becomes tempered by battle(if one of the whelps truely misbehaves he alone gets send away from his pack to join the pack of misfits, the skyclaws). then when the time is right the pack becomes promoted to become grey hunters, and they are allowed to grow their facial hair, this is also the time soletary wolves get selected by the priests to join the scouts. those that do share the bonds and kinship with the rest of their pack stay a grey hunter for many many years, their fangs growing longer. as the decenia pass by the pack takes even more casualties and eventually gets promoted to become long fangs, the eldest of the eldest(besides dreadnoughts). it's because this promoting as a pack and not on an individual basis we've got these cool things like lone wolves (there would definetly be some in a decimated company).packs that are decimated under battle pack size most likely just recieve another role, either crewing some of the transports, aiding the wolf priests as mentors for the new whelps etc edit: also note the only way to become a wolf guard is by doing a heroic act, either saving your wolf lord(since every great company has one, even decimated great companies) or doing heroic stuff like taking down that famous bloodthrister and stuff like that. i suggest you use this to decide how many wolf guard models you can use, it would certainly create a saga for each wolf guard Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237042-decimated-great-company/#findComment-2858165 Share on other sites
Silverwolf
First remember how the pack structure within the Space Wolves works. Initiates are inducted in packs of Blood Claws. Headstrong and spoiling for a fight, these packs are used as shock troops, usually under the guidance of a far more veteran Wolf, such as a Wolf Guard, or even a Wolf Priest. As their numbers dwindle through losses, and they become forged in the fires of war, the Blood Claws settle down, and are ready to become Grey Hunters. They've learnt discipline in all things, and are a now a battle-hardened and tested fighting force that can go toe-to-toe with the worst the universe has to offer. (Note the drop in max pack numbers from 15 to 10 in the codex reflects this change from Blood Claws to Grey Hunters). Eventually, as they become "long in the tooth", and their pack has taken even further losses, Grey Hunters become Long Fangs, now entrusted with their Great Companies heaviest weaponry, and trusted by their brothers to provide fire support and protection from the biggest and meanest targets on the field. (Further reflected by the drop from a max of 10, to a max of 6 in a pack) And throughout this whole process, Space Wolves can become either Wolf Guard, or Wolf Scouts. The Wolf Guard being members of any level of the pack hierarchy, from any pack, who have shown distinction through deeds above and beyond the norm. These deeds earn them an induction into the Wolf Guard of their Wolf Lord. Wolf Scouts on the other hand come from those who show a lean towards an agility of mind and action, along with a steady and calm demeanour, that sets them apart from their brothers, and makes them perfectly suited to the art of recon, able to exist, and act, independently of all but their small pack, sometimes spending years behind enemy lines before emerging to exact a terrible toll on the enemy. Yes we know. I'm assuming Ramses "some from each pack" would have to do with the fact you can't make a pack of 15 Grey Hunters, hence only "some" can become Grey Hunters (Not to mention most people seem to run with 6-8 man packs these days) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237042-decimated-great-company/#findComment-2858274 Share on other sites

I thought of doing this, but on a much smaller scale. I planned on tracking one or two models, specifically one of my Blood Claws named Dorvan Bloodwind. I would track any significant events, and promote him based on those events. In terms of specific actions, it could be as simple as using different dice for this character, as you would when rolling a power weapon with normal attacks. For example, failing a dangerous terrain check might warrant promotion to Sky Claw. Or focusing all his attacks on and slaying an IC, and giving him a power fist or promotion to Grey Hunter or even Wolf Guard.
