Retinue Ideas Please

So I plan on collecting a Draigowing, but I will get Coteaz (or Solom Lok)

What are the best retinues?

From what I've seen they look dead expensive, but I did see a pack with a witch hunter and a retinue, which looks pretty good.

Any help will be gladly accepted :P

Well im not very experience with henchmen but this might be a good shooty unit to run with coteaz.

2 jokaeros

3 servitors with plasma cannons

2 crusaders

4 warrior acolytes with whatever(mostly r just cheap meat shields)

Something like this would let you take advantage of coteaz's ive been ex pecring you power and it would alao be effective against tanks and infantry.

Also the two jokeros will make it possible for a number of upgrades one a d6 roll by having two u will be guarantees a useful roll. The servitors r nice for meq and horde as well as light armor. The crusaders r there for storm shields might be useless might not just seemed like a decent idea. Thats my idea for some shooty henchmen. Anybody would care to correct it or change it please speak up

And as far as models go i like tue wargames factory shocktroopers i would just use them in place of all the models my group is leient on proxys

Crusaders seem like a pretty safe bet to me: what could be better than ablative wounds with 3++ invuln saves to take the fall for your IC?

DCA hit nasty but how oven do you want your IC to be charging into combat? If the answer is "as often as possible!" then I recommend a few DCA and also Crusaders. B) If the reverse, then I think some ranged guys (servitors, jokero, warrior acolytes) to taste are for you.

Considering I'll be (fingers crossed) having a DraigoWing army, with Crowe, it shouldn't matter too much, but if I were to get Coteaz instead of Crowe, I'd have a hard hitting assaulting squad.

Any chance they can be put in a drop-pod?

Zero chance. Pick up a copy of the codex.

I have a few favored Inquisitor retinue loadouts.

"The Swiss Army Knife"

5 Warriors w/stormbolters

3 Warriors w/meltas

Chimera

132 pts

This unit can sit combfortably in its chimera shooting from distance, or rush the enemy and sacrifice itself for a melta strike.

"The Assaulters"

4 Crusaders

3 DCAs

2 Banishers w/eviscerators

3 Warriors w/meltas

Chimera

262 pts

This unit can run itself right into the enemy's grill, dish out the pain and even take some pain back in return.

"Cheap Dakka"

3 Servitors, heavy bolters

30 pts

Just stick these guys in your deployment zone -- possibly in a Chimera (purely an optional choice) -- and let them shoot. For the points cost -- and with them being a scoring unit in a Coteaz list -- mindlock really isn't much of an issue.

Strictly IMO (so please feel free to object), including henchies in a GK list has the potential to give us access to units and weapons from the codex, that we otherwise wouldnt be able to take.

Las (Jokaero), plas, and melta/melta bombs are the first things that come to mind. A few other nifty things we can get are mystics (accurate DSing), and banishers (against Daemons, he will be mandatory). However, the biggest boon we get is that we can include an inquisitorial Chimera (is this assertion correct? i.e. we cant get the chimera WITHOUT henchies? Can someone confirm this for me, i much appreciate it) for our TDA HQ and friends. It's a cheap mobile command bunker (with libby of course, to get that crucial inches increase on his spells) that would potentially allow 16 MC'd Psycannon shots via top hatching, whilst on the move. Obviously only a viable (or perhaps MORE viable) with some target saturation to make it harder for the opponent.

I, like the OP am still not sure what is the best way to use them. Basically, shooty or assaulty. I feel, that going the assaulty route would entail inclusion of transports, and hence be a bit pricey. Not to mention, that GK really dont lack an assaulty component, which leads me to the assumption that a shooty henchie warband would fulfill a much better niche that our list generally lacks... Guns at +24 inch range. The "mini-devestator" squad would have a nice place in the army, if you dont have enough points for a ven dread. Either this, or as Number6 elucidated, throw in shooty plas/melta warriors, and zip them around in a chimera, performing AT duties.

I initially wanted to build a Karamazov build, so sticking him with a shooty retinue seemed like a good idea. However, I've been toying with the idea of having an OX inquisitor w/conversion beamer, w/ shooty retinue. Also might include a techmarine w/conversion beamer, attached to a bare bones Purgation squad. Hopefully to draw enemy closer to midfield so I can dominate @ 24 inches with the GK's.

Any insights are welcome, many thanks in advance

I think taking a single psyker in a retinue isn't a bad idea: 10 points for a potential S3 large template isn't bad.

But I haven't actually used my army yet, so who know!

But there aren't any henchmen that can match the optimum range of a conversion beamer, other than the jokaero and his lascannon. And you don't want too many jokaero in one unit or their customization ability is wasted.

Random question: I have one of those weird 'cherub' models that used to come with Inquisitor Coteaz. What type of henchman would it be? It looks more like a demonhost than anything else!

Originally it was a "Familiar" model.. I would recommend either calling it a "servo skull marker" for the wargear, or using it as a "warrior with bolter" :tu:
