jtheodorec
You might get a more cogent reply in the Dark Angels forum than you would here. Best of luck in your search! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237160-elite-of-the-dark-angels/#findComment-2859525 Share on other sites

Ioldanach
I see the Deathwing as the closest analogy to the Sanguinary Guard, although they (the Deathwing) are really more like the veterans of other Chapters. The nature of the Dark Angels, however, also covers the Deathwing including the most advanced veterans within the Chapter. Something tells me that Games Workshop is going to expand on the Deathwing somewhat when they bring the Dark Angels up to date in their next codex, giving them something more analogous to the Honor Guard/Sanguinary Guard (but I'm just guessing). I'm really hoping for a terminator armored version of Azrael, with a terminator armored bodyguard (making them quite distinct from other Chapters' Honor Guard/Sanguinary Guard), but the Dark Angels might get stuck with a power armored version to go with the current Azrael model. MadDoc
As others have said, the Deathwing is probably the nearest thing to SG that DA currently have. @Brule the Spear-Slayer - Since Azrael is equipped with Protector (artificer armour, 2+ save) and has the Lion Helm (4++ for Azrael and any squad he joins) which are both superior to Terminator armour I don't see the need for giving Azrael the option of Terminator armour (it adds nothing beyond DS via teleport, which can either be added to his rules anyway or he could gain DS via some other option, like a new HG unit with a DP). Add to that the fact that an Honour Guard/Sanguinary Guard equivalent for DA will likely come with artificer armour (as both HG and SG do) and as such will already have a 2+ save (gaining a 4++ when Azrael is running with them to boot), then a Terminator armoured HG/SG equivalent squad doesn't have so much appeal. We also have some official artwork from GW featuring what looks to be artificer armoured DA HG/SG equivalents, establishing the existance of such a formation during the Great Crusade at least. Which, to me, is also far cooler imagery than a DW adjunct unit would be anyway. I do agree that GW may well decide to add something similar to SG to the next DA Codex. If they do, I hope they're sensible and make them a standalone formation removed from the Company structure proper as HG and SG are, rather than make them a 1st Company (DW) adjunct. Isiah
Yes I agree that currently the DW are our 'Elite' unit(s). The DA don't have a power-armoured unit of the same class as the BA's SG – our Veteran Squads could be that unit - but as of yet are totally overshadowed by our more famous First Company. I would hope to see a change in this to come about within any new Codex that comes our way – and that's coming from a self-confessed DW fanboy :). Cheers I Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237160-elite-of-the-dark-angels/#findComment-2860086 Share on other sites
Droma
I'd expect to see some form of updated veteran unit including new models. There is some good artwork out there with winged helmets, so I'd expect to see more of that along with flowing robes and power swords. I know I'd like to get some iron armor heads to use on some of my DA models. But more than anything, I'd like to see some unit access to relic type blades. We seriously lack that plus strength punch in CC. Without losing Initiative. Droma
^^ fully agree. I want to picture that scene out of the savage weapon short story with him just running forward giant sword raised. Xenith
The sword of secrets was the original relic blade, Id like to see them as options for captains, etc. What about pushing the plasma issue, like combines plasmagun/relic blades like in that awesome azrael conversion on here? Like an assault 2 plasma pistol? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237160-elite-of-the-dark-angels/#findComment-2861046 Share on other sites
Brother Immolator
Well i am planing on getting my hands on GKPA box as soon as i can.My plan is to use the bits for creating two Robed vets with wrist mounted stormbolters, blade and halberd. And two more with blade and stormshield and a standard berer and apoth from my bits box as azraels honour guard. How does that sound?Halberts and stormbolters are a bit heretical?
