esinhorn
Ok I removed the mask best I could,I have to remember to apply it thicker next time, all in all ok battle damage. I had hoped for better honestly, but I works with what I got besides,if I ever want to redo it Laquer Thinner does not destroy resin. I am trying to neaten up the chips and highlight them I think I know what went wrong with the masking fluid, you need to remove it once the paint is touch dry,I let it harden a couple days and it was almost impossible to remove. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/001-87.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/002-87.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/003-79.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237293-150-mm-imperial-fist-lexandro-darquebus/page/2/#findComment-2865768 Share on other sites
Blood4thebloodgod
What is this fluid masking you speak of? I have done the salt weathering mask with my Apostles of Contagion http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...p;#entry2860689 but this looks way better. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Something like this: http://www.dickblick.com/products/winsor-a...-masking-fluid/ In one of my art classes years ago, we used it a lot with wet-on-wet watercolor paintings to keep certain areas white or a background color. esinhorn
You buy Masking Fluid art the art/craft store ,it is a Liquid Latex like compound that you paint/sponge on and let dry. You can then paint on top of that. When finished you peel off the latex to reveal realistic paint chipping. More for large scale models like vehicles though I started with the oil paints and I pulled a Bob Ross,he is looking great again http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/005-56.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/004-70.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237293-150-mm-imperial-fist-lexandro-darquebus/page/2/#findComment-2865812 Share on other sites
esinhorn
The chipping ended up turning out really good after all,I forgot how powerful oil paints are. I used Transperant Red Oxide to tint the yellow for subtle shading, and made my own Paynes Grey using Burnt Umber,Blue,Black oil paints for anything steel colored. Burnt Sienna and MIG standard rust was used for the streaks, with me using a thinner damp brush to drag downward. I also used MIG Rainmarks for subtle streaking where there is no rust. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/006-45.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/007-37.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/008-35.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/009-32.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f295/wilis516/010-23.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237293-150-mm-imperial-fist-lexandro-darquebus/page/2/#findComment-2866128 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
I dream for the day I can, A, afford one of these, and B, do it right with an awesome paintjob like yours. Forgive my ignorance, but why is the Tactical symbol upside down? It still looks good, just curious is all. Doghouse
Very nice work mate. subtlebrush
Nicely done! I think the battle damage looks fine, not too little and not too much. I definitely have to get me one of these in the near future for my display case I'm building. Grotsmasha
That is super fine, excellent work. Makes me want one even more.... In regards to the fist symbol, from the pics, even the one directly facing it, the fingers lack definition, which I'm sure is because it is a pic and I'm not seeing it in EL. esinhorn
You are right about IRL but I have to go back and touch them up and highlight them. I also have to paint the head studs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237293-150-mm-imperial-fist-lexandro-darquebus/page/2/#findComment-2867517 Share on other sites
