Bolt Thrower
I've almost finished my first handful of dudes from my the AoBR box. I haven't painted before (apart from a van saar gang many moons ago) so any criticism is more than welcome, always happy to learn. The pics looked better on my phone, they're a little too over exposed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/mafoota/30082011001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/mafoota/30082011086.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/mafoota/30082011085.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237365-my-first-squad/ Share on other sites
Larkyn
For your first real models... :) DANG...they're better than I can do, and I've been painting for a little over 3 years now (started playing 6 years ago, only started painting 3 years ago). I'd recommend getting some of the Citadel Washes, they're amazing, and washing the armor with Thraka Green. Of course, that's my opinion, others may say different. And Ogryn Flesh for the sarge's face. Good work though, I like them. Bolt Thrower
I've given them a wash with badab black and ogryn flesh but it doesn't show up too well on the pics. The armour could do with another wash to be honest. I did try to leave some the black undercoat showing as per tutorials but struggled with it. I haven't highlighted or put chapter markings on yet either (although they are naturally highlighted due to the pic being taken in daylight). lithior
They're looking fantastic mate, great start. A Snot green/Dark angels green mix highlight will really make the armour stand out. Nice one, looking forward to seeing more. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237365-my-first-squad/#findComment-2862300 Share on other sites
Bolt Thrower
Cheers, I was dreading the painting side of the hobby as I'm notoriously scruffy when it comes to anything dextrous. I'm going to have a go at highlighting them when my kids have gone to bed. Bolt Thrower
I found this grot model in a box of stuff I got given and he was just asking for it. <_< http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/mafoota/gtfo.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237365-my-first-squad/#findComment-2864493 Share on other sites
verpine
Wow, looking great. I would suggest to wash the red with baal red wash (or the brown wash, if you don't mind darkening the red). Also, I'm guessing you don't have a ton of paints, but next time you're buying paint grab the brown foundation paint and brown wash, and paint the holster and pouches and other details using them. And, if you feel like really taking them to the next level, go ahead and try edge highlighting. Good luck ^_^ edit: forgot to close parentheses haha Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237365-my-first-squad/#findComment-2864624 Share on other sites
Bolt Thrower
Aye, I need some brown. I left them green and figured I could always add details like that when I get the paint. I tried some highlighting last night and while my patience remained intact it looked pretty good. When I started to try and rush it went on a bit thick and will need redoing. Mercadius
Great first effort. The leave pic made me chuckle <_< The tubing areas between the armour plates could do with picking out with some metallic, then washed with black ink to define them, but they all look perfectly good for gaming as they are. Bolt Thrower
Thanks Merc. I put some more wash into some of the brighter recesses last night and it was a definite improvement. I'd like to add some more detail into the faces but I'll wait until I have a smaller brush and a maginifying glass.
