Gaeus Marius
Hello all, Just as the title implies, what colors do you use to paint your specialists? Traditional? Chapter colors with Specialist shoulder pads? Combination of both? I personally use a combination. I have one apothecary painted in the traditional white, and another in DA colors with a white shoulder pad. I like to paint my techmarines Mars red, and I am at a complete loss on how to paint my librarians. I had thought to paint them Deathwing colors with green tabards and the blue shoulder pads, but I am not sure on that one...... Grotsmasha
Typically, I paint Apothicaries and Librarians in Chapter colours with the Helm, Powerpack and Shoulder pad in specialist colours, and Techmarines in a dark red, and Chaplains in the black. SirDuck13
I'm sure it varies from codex to codex, and I only have 3 of the marines codexes on hand. In C:SM, the Techmarine with the full servo harness shows that he's painted in standard chapter colors except his right shoulder pad which is painted Mars Red. In the Blood Angels 'dex, it just shows him painted to match the rest of the army, but they're already red, so it's hard to tell. And sadly, in the Grey Knights 'dex, it doesn't show a pic anywhere of a painted one. It just lists them as an option. I'd want to double check the Dark Angels 'dex I have at home, but from the look of it, I'd say that you leave the marine painted to match the rest of the chapter and then do certain areas in the Mars Red scheme. However, Chaplains all have the same scheme. Their armor is entirely black with a skull helm with the left shoulder pad's interior being painted to match the army's color scheme. (The Blood Angels codex only has a pic of Lemartes, but I'm assuming that his armor matches the other Chaplains in the chapter.) Librarians are a different. In both the Blood Angels codex and the C:SM, they're painted in Ultramarine Blue and then their left shoulder pad is painted to match the rest of the chapter. (Then again with both books in front of me, I notice that the pic they used for the BA librarian is the same pic they used in the C:SM for the Exorcists Libby.) The GK libby shown is painted to match the chapter from head to toe, but has blue detailing instead. His tabard is blue, that's all. So... Yeah, I'd find it interesting to compare those ideas with the pics in the other available Space Marines codexes and see what they show, but I figured I'd help out with what I've got on hand. puck
I tend to do combinations although more mixed than just shoulder pads. I have a DW librarian in my profile album that I did a while back using a mixed scheme. I really think the mixed schemes are the best as they set the model apart as important without looking too out of place. Gaeus Marius
My Deathwing Librarian is painted DW colors with the blue details, and I think that works best for him. I just don't see a big blue guy running around with all my bone colored baddies. It brings to mind the TDA chaplain though... I wonder what one would look like painted Deathwing colors. Librarians all seem to be blue in the dex's, but I think in reality, it is more the players choice. Post some pics guys, I don't think there is a thread specifically for these models.
