Flying Assualt Marines

I've just started work on my Blood Angel Assault marine squad, as they have Jump packs I have modelled half on pins to show them flying/landing. Problem is the figures (No matter what glue) come loose really quickly and just end up spinning around! Has anyone else got a better way to get this effect? It'd be best my doing something now rather than when they're all painted. Cheers all!

I've always used green stuff in the hold of the foot, pack, or where ever you drill the marine and then green stuff the base to even out on top and underneath. Then insert the pin for both, adjust for height, place your model on the other end while he has green stuff in his drilled part, let dry and you're set.

Funnily enough I did Greenstuff it in the base end, didn't think about the foot end.

You wouldn't think it helps, but I did a bezerker model that was diving from the side shooting dual pistols and had him pinned in the air with greenstuff on all 4 points and that model has yet to ever see movement besides me picking him up. It just always helps to have a clay bonding substance for the pin to cling to.
That first one looks... um... uncomfortable.
The second one doesn't look a lot of fun either B)

Re carbon rod - what thickness did you get, looks about 1.5 or 2mm? And do you think something narrower would hold them up or not?

I would think narrower, because one that is too thick becomes too obvious. There's probably a balance to be found between strength and discretion.

I've used 2mm thick rod, I think there was 1mm which I'm going to use for pinning, the 2mm has the benefit of rigidity. For my army I wanted to make them sturdy, that's why I don't mind the rod being a bit thick. If you use the 1mm in small lengths I don't reckon you'd have any problems.

I've tried to model 2 of the models flying with the other 3 just coming in to land, the guy with the powerfist is leaning a bit too much backward (That was my first attempt), I have 5 more but they're just running, It'll give the whole 10 man unit a bit of movement hopefully.
