Ashdown
I like old school stuff, especially WWII Airplane art with pin-ups. I was thinking about adding some nose painting to a stormraven I am in the process of painting and was wondering what your thoughts would be? I dont know if it would look cool or silly... Here is what Ill be putting on it, it is from one of my favorite artist Bawidamann. Pin-Up ++EDIT++ Changed the image to a link. Image hasnt been completely removed since it is to illustrate a point, however it does border on a NSFW level, plus the board does have a diverse age range to consider. Tellos05
Damn she got a fine ass! I was thinking of doin the same thing with a valkerie but honestly I dont think it would tie in well. Have you thought about changing it to a battle sister? styygens
Ah... Bawidamann. First, it's your model, you have to look at it, and if you like the art and think you can paint this on the nose in a way that does it justice, you should go for it. OTOH, although I'm not a Fluff-Nazi, I don't believe Space Marines would bother painting a beautiful woman on their aerospacecraft unless she was an Imperium saint -- which probably means there wouldn't be a sexy pose. The fluff doesn't support Space Marines having much interest in the opposite sex. Even if you can paint it on the StormRaven beautifully, you're going to get a lot of strange looks. I have a stash of Bawidamann pics in my Inspiration binder for later use. I'm thinking of putting them on the nose or wings of IG or Inquisition Valkyries -- which makes a lot more sense from a fluff perspective. Just my $.02 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237512-pin-up-girl-for-stormraven/#findComment-2864485 Share on other sites
Watcher in the Dark
Probably would have flown if we were in the RT days. Unfortunately in the "Grim Darkness" of the far future, marines are far too pious and dogmatic to allow their weapons and vehicles to be adorned with such iconography. Indeed, the majority of Space Marines would have very little conceptual and certainly no practical knowledge of what they would be seeing in this photo. It would work in the context of the IG, though as they are normal men and have the same feelings and urges as you or I do when looking at an attractive woman. Although even that is subject to the regiment in which you would find it. Some IG regiments have female soldiers (as evidenced by Codex IG), and they wouldn't take kindly to that kind of suggestive material. vipertaja
Indeed, the majority of Space Marines would have very little conceptual and certainly no practical knowledge of what they would be seeing in this photo. I'd say the space marines would basically understand, they just wouldn't feel one way or another about it. I agree that they wouldn't bother putting pin-up girls on their stuff. Indeed it's more of an imperial guard thing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237512-pin-up-girl-for-stormraven/#findComment-2864555 Share on other sites
CarbonCopy
Personally, I agree it is more of a guard kind of thing. Marine vehicles, if they DID have "nose art," it would be much more "devotional" or commemortive than quasi-erotic. That said, nice piece. It's your model, do what you want. :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237512-pin-up-girl-for-stormraven/#findComment-2864580 Share on other sites
Purge
loyal space marines would not allow that on the equiptment. I think of them like a militant religious order that would consider images like this, a diviation and distraction that leads to self gratification. no, not like that. Just careing about ones self interests and not the needs of the empire. If you do chaos marines they yes. The actual image would look great on an imperial guard tank. I don't know that I'd go so far as to imply that any Marine chapter which does this is fallen, but it is certainly unorthodox. If you care about fluff, you'll need to think pretty hard for a justification. KhorneHunter57x
I say go for it. They are your little plastic...strike jets, so do what you want with them. It will add a bit of uniqueness and make it stand out from the typical 'Raven. If you care about fluff, you'll need to think pretty hard for a justification. Meh, the Machine Spirits of aircraft have always preferred nose art. It's part of why the Allies won WWII. Add nose art, and appease the Machine Spirit. (though yeah, Astartes art on aircraft would probably be closer to that which they put on their banners; inspiring, dramatic artwork commemorating a major victory or event) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237512-pin-up-girl-for-stormraven/#findComment-2864636 Share on other sites
Olgerth Istaarn
Nice ass, baby. But no. Guardsmen would draw something like this on a Valkyrie. A Space Marine drawing a hot chick on a vehicle would be kind of like a real-life US Marine painting a cat in a lingerie on an Abrams. The Marines of today don't do such things; that's for the Noise Marines and other Slaanesh cultists. The only way someone would get themselves on it would be if they were a Living Saint, and even the its not likely. Or maybe Sanguinius. This was my first thought. Sad, because that's a great piece up there. If you played IG, you could do that with wreckless abandon :tu: as guardsmen have not abandoned their libidos. But, yea...it's your model. Maybe your marines have a minor gene seed defect where they actually appreciate attractive women? ;) <3 Do it! It looks great. Alkana
A Space Marine drawing a hot chick on a vehicle would be kind of like a real-life US Marine painting a cat in a lingerie on an Abrams. I'm really tempted to make some phone calls to a few Marines now. Honestly, you could paint it on a SR, but, like others have said, it'd be odd fluff-wise. But if you painted her in power armor with cherubs and such, you might be able to get away with the pose. Maybe. Hemal
TBH, this fits in with Rogue Trader fluff of marines, but lets face it its a cool picture and as such if you can pull it off on a Storm Raven, whyever not eh? Master Of Malfeasance X
You could say that it was a proving piece for a young tech priest and that it came like that. If you play grey knights, it is entirely possible that Grey knights don't always fly it and that it could be an inquisitor's personally pimped ride. Hell, if you play blood angels, they love art, it might be that sort of thing appeals to the guy who maintains it. I like it, and I see no reason you couldn't use it, especially if that's a recurring theme in your army. Gurth
And now some advice on actually applying this design to a model :) You could print it out (preferably on thinner paper than normal) and glue it to the model. If you do this right it will be hard to spot, but you would need to find a flat area large enough for the graphic. A better way would be to print your own waterslide transfer (decal), but that requires materials that may be harder to get hold of than regular printing paper. Alleton
I'd love to see pics of it, I'm trying to build one based on the 501st Valhallan which is roughly equal male and female, and I'm not finding many female minis that I like. My GS skills are rubbish so no making my own. On topic, I was going to put pin ups on my tanks, but I'm not too knowledgeable about the whole decal making scene. (I'm primarily IG, slowly building a SM force at the moment.)
