Lucas Alexander
Some one has probably already asked this question, but I do not have the time. This question has been driving me crazy. Which doors do the side sponsons go on, the front or the back? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237556-land-raider/ Share on other sites
Jacinda
Either is fine and you can find plenty of examples of them done both ways. I put them in the back because this is an assault vehicle and I will be deploying from the front. If you use template weapons you may get better results by putting them in the front due to the very limited range of the flame template. plasman
I guess you can choose. But the front doors would be more logical on a practical point of view, otherwise the embarking/desembarking marines would run the risk to be shot at point blank by the Land Raider's own guns. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/237556-land-raider/#findComment-2865090 Share on other sites

While you can see around and over your own models for sighting in a lascannon, the template can't be placed over your own troops. Standard ballistic weapons just need LoS to a part of the target. Flame templates take up more space and are harder to place if you have models in front of them. The only hard and fast rule is to place them where you think they look best. chromedog
If you put the guns up front, you can't put witty signs on the front doors. Like: Caution: Do NOT stand in front of guns. Or In his Name, thou shalt duck. I'll take those over the chance of that extra inch and a half giving me weapon range (lascannons don't need the extra). Coopervisor
I've actually done both. Sponsons at the rear on my LR Crusader so give more coverage when disembarking 7 terminators. Sponsons at the front on my Achilles for the little bit of extra range on the meltas. apologist
The original Land Raider had the guns in front of the doors, so I've always opted for that configuration with the new ones.
