ID Tavern project

I've been making sketches for scale purposes of the tavern. This is going to happen. Come next payday I'll buy the plasticard that I need too. I'm in a debate, do the tavern to scale that we use for brawls (with a 2-1-2 formation, you can fit 5 marines on one 3"x3" base, making the tavern 15"x27") and use it for show and maybe a kill team terrain piece, or scale it down to maybe a more reasonable 8" x 16" so it can be a piece (that'll work great for my 40k and warmahordes board).

Anyone have an opinion?

I've had to make a goal list for all the stuff I need to paint and create, new Long Fangs, a 4th GH pack, and simply greening all of my stuff to be repainted, so this could take me a week, a month, or up to 3 months. But this will get done.

that's awesome Nrth! I'm looking forward to this work. You will do us all here proud! this reminds me of Growler's suggestions from the original Inglorious Brawler thread, season one. http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...17688&st=50 post #70

For anyone wishing to build suitable terrain for this endeavor, consider this: http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/index...&product=68

For cardboard foldups those are great quality! But no cardboard for anything I'm making. Pink Foam, foamboard, plasticard, bulsa wood, the barrels from michael's, some old mageknight tables and chairs and if I can't make it by hand, I'll order some stuff from hirst arts. Their plaster and resin reusable molds. I love the keg on this mold especially

2" x 2" squares definitely work the best, making a tavern 10" x 18" . As soon as the storm stops I can get back to cutting and sanding some pink foam. I use to do it in my apartment, but I realized after completing several pieces that pink foam dust gets everywhere and it's definitely not a healthy thing to have in your lungs.

Edit: aaand since I don't sleep much, I'll be getting Space Marine at midnight...

It's a sad day when you realize you ran out of plastic glue and super glue.... well, I didn't run out, but my zap a gap bottle superglued itself shut, and when I worked it apart, it exploded on my hand. It's a good night to have a sense of humor and just laugh at a hand superglued to itself

on a the note of you getting SM add me and we'll smite the Allfathers enemies :)

What a surprise, I get more work done with my WoW server down.....

So you guys get to see my very unprofessional system for terrain.

I'm starting with this

and it's gonna be cut with this

I had a hot knife, but I ruined it pretty quick. I've had my eye on the industrial strength versions, but till I can buy one, I use the tried and true. A large serated knife and vaseline to keep it moving cleanly through the foam. I'm going to try to build the floor and walls out of the foam since I want a stone floor rather than wood boards.

Yeah, just teaser pictures ^_^

Edit: So my roomate has seen me making terrain before and has always dug it, but he's never seen me start a new piece, so this was the first time he's ever seen me rubbing vaseline onto a large knife. The look on his face was priceless!

You know the metal part of a pencil right by the eraser? It makes a pretty good ale mug. My buddy Zeke, who heard it from legend, showed me that right before angels and wolves went out to play.

Don't forget to add some dark blue in there somewhere :(

Well, between bad weather and work, I haven't gotten much done. I'll sanding a lot tonight, buying a lot of balsa wood on Saturday and post something real Sunday since it's my next day off!

Who here doesn't love Michael's?? Just got a 50% off coupon, gonna buy tons of stuff!

That is all.

A little bit done. I'm basing it off some pics I could find of old Viking buildings, so rough wood, with alternating interlocking at the edges. What i'm struggling with is finding a place that has leather squares. I want to stretch small leather across sections of the walls.

Sweet.so is forte in his whelpiness going to find a way to destroy it in a brawl? :)

EDIT:thats the same type of knife i use for my models, theyre nice eh?

If you want to simulate leather squares, try using strips of brown paper bags, like the ones you use for lunch or the thicker ones they give at supermarket. Dip it in water and pva glue to harden it, maybe add some wrinkles prior to simulate leather.

EDIT: Greenstuff stitchings on top of it could also be done quite simply to look like leather stitched together with thick, crude ropes or thread.

Cheers..the only way I'd destroy a fine piece of work is with your head....

The old paper soaked in pva is worth trying. Don't cut it to size though. Tear it along a ruler edge so its a rougher texture along the edges.
