Desert Terrain

Recommended Posts

Well, having finished my current army project, thought I'd do some work on some terrain pieces I've had knocking around for a little while, and build a few more bits too! It's all desert themed to tie in with the bases on my Iron Gods, hopefully going to get enough together to cover a 6x8 table!

First up, my lovely missus bought me a hot wire cutter as one of my pressies for our anniversary so I got myself some polystyrene sheets and came up with this:

It's pretty simple, cut the sheets to shape, glued and painted. I made sure all of the 4 sections are the same length (top and bottom levels) where they meet, meaning I can put any of them together in a variety of positions; all 4 together in the middle of a table, 2x two together on a table edge, or one in each corner.

Got some other bits in the pipeline, including some rock spires and some ruined habitat bits like low walls, storage tanks and a larger building, will post once they're further along.

C+C very welcome, especially ideas for more terrain! B)

Thanks very much for comments guys!

As to the angle of the slope, at the ends where the sections join each level is 5mm wider at the base than at the top so it does have a slight slope. Between those joining edges it's all done by hand though, so in some places it's a more gentle slope and in others it's steeper (in some places it even overhangs).

That being said, if I do any more similar pieces I think they will be more of a gently sloping 'hill' than a 'rocky outcrop'.

Thanks again!

Well, for me it's less the style of it, and more the shape. It looks a lot like two tree-trunk cross sections. The rocky outcrop thing works for me though. Perhaps a little rounder, or longer. Know what I mean?

A rocky outcrop it is! ;)

Next up, a couple of bits I've been building for about 6 months between squads, finally finished, a ruin and some low walls. Used the painting rust technique from the 'what's new today' bolg thing on the GW website, quite pleased with how it came out!

Buildings look good, cant wait to see more of your work, big thanks to your girl think she needs some credit too :tu: .

You could put wire rod sticking out of the wall to represent reinforcing bar, and wind blown sand would build up against the prevailing wind side of the structure.

Keep them coming though, while there heaps of beautiful armies here on B&C theres is few interesting boards that they play on.

Im sure your work will inspire heaps of guys here

Adding some battle damage to the walls would be awesome, right now they look a bit to much like a marble countertop.

Imperial office blocks are known for their enduring exteriors, which remain pristine even when shelling has removed the entirety of the complex behind them.
