2nd Legion Project: Base

Hey guys, I'm here with the V1 of the base information about the 2nd Legion I posted about a while ago. You know, the one with the alternate universe? Yeah, that one. Most of the names are pretty cheesy/lame/stupid/retarded because this is my first run, so spare me that, and remember I'll never really be "done" with this project! It'll always be changing.

Name: Scions of the Snake (cheesy, cheesy! :HQ: )

Legion: Second

Primarch: Serpentus (please help me change this)

Homeworld: Anguilus [destroyed]

Alternate Universe: It is the 41st millennium in a galaxy wracked by war. After Horus and his rebels defeated the Emperor's loyal Legions, the Imperium completely dissipated, and the surviving Loyalists fled into space. Although the main loyalist Legions such as the Imperial Fists and Blood Angels were utterly destroyed, a handful of Space Marines still loyal to the Emperor, even a few Legions, survived the Heresy and their violent pursuit afterward. One of these Legions however, the Scions of the Snake (again, I hate the cheesiness), disappeared from the galaxy ten thousand years ago, when the World Eaters attacked and destroyed their home. Now, with the infinite armies of Chaos threatening to snuff out the last remaining lights of hope in the galaxy, the Scions have returned, and with a cold gleam of vengeance in their hearts.

So, what do you think? I went with a rather Star Wars-y theme with this, obvious from the part about Horus winning the Heresy. It might be a little too far-fetched, but perhaps we can make something out of it. Feel free to tell me what you think (don't worry, it won't hurt my feelings).

If you're going with the snake theme how about the Shadow Serpents for the legion's name?

I didn't realise that this was going to be alt-universe to this extent - they're missing in the current universe so why change it that much?

Ultimately this is just an exploration of creative ideas to see what we can come up with about the missing legions. They were made 'missing' so that the fanbase can speculate so why not just keep it like that? As this is all being done for fun I see nothing wrong with incorporating it into the current storyline in some way. I guess first of all some kind of IA would be needed to explain what they're about and why they went 'missing'. Then we can expand into what they're doing now they've returned. The main problem is that they've been gone for 10,000 years but have been able to maintain their numbers. That would be difficult in both this alternative universe and the current one 40k is set in.

Beautiful. Thanks. Really, I love it (I'd take anything over "scions of the snake").

Yeah, due to some new responses to my original post, I got an excellent idea (thanks Valkyrion :woot: ). I rewrite it, so look at it tomorrow afternoon. Should be good by then.

Quite well put, good sir! In fact, I'm stealing that quote. :geek:

I...don't like it....the name I mean...sorry... :)

The snake thing doesn't sit right...it's not...proper enough, for want of a better word.

All of the Legion names are fitting. That might just be because they are established, but most of the names came about because of a certain heritage. Ultramarines come from Ultramar, the Iron Hands have a primarch with iron hands, the Blood Angels have a winged primarch and recruit from the Blood etc.

The Shadow Snakes have a snake bodied primarch that live in the dark - thats what the name says to me.

I hate being critical without putting forth an alternative, but the name screams DIY and not 2nd Legion.

Ok so before we come up with a chapter name we need to develop the character of their primarch and the region their homeworld was in in space. We need to develop them before we come up with a name. That can work we just need to work out what their niche is. I believe some progress (regarding navy seals) has already been made on that front. Until we do that (and make it good), all names will sound DIY. What you have to remember though is that at some point every chapter was a DIY. I do however believe there is something nice when a chapter's name, homeworld and fighting style seem to match well. We would need to assess what exists already to find a niche.

We have to explain how no one has ever accidentally stumbled across their homeworld in the 10,000 years since too. Presumably it is within Imperial space and therefore at some point could have been encountered. I'm guessing it's been destroyed or declared forbidden off the top of my head.

So are we going with the in the webway for the past ten thousand years idea? Maybe not lost or something but still there? From there we could say that the world has been under severe lock-down by the adeptus terra...or a secret sect of the inquisition (afterall they are so secretive few of htem even know who their upper echelons are). Or maybe the custodes have it on lock-down. Destroyed would also make sense...but if we go with the put in reserve or disappeared idea a lock-down would also make sense.

Just my 2 cents.
