Iron Priest TWM Conversion

I had purchased the different variants of Mythicast models awhile back, including the one that has a gear insignia on some of its armor pieces. I also ordered the Space Wolf Iron Priest Metal model with the intention of cutting it in half at the waist (without lopping off the thunderhammer's haft or the right arm with bolter) and then boring a concave shape into the bottom of the torso so it can sit on the rider legs molded into the mount.

Has anyone else tried this?

If so, any tips?

It's not gonna be easy, but I think I can manage, and I'd prefer to have the upper torso of the official model given all its detail...plus I bought it specifically to cut it in half

hmm, I've seen others who have pinned but never tried it myself, good idea.

Pinning is so surprisingly easy that it is a wonder not many people do it.

Pin Vise

Super Glue

Clippers

paperclips of various thickness.

That about rounds out your material list.

just buy a rhino/razorback lol you can never have to many of those (unless you have 12, 12 is too many)

Hey now, between all my armour in my 2 armies (SW & IF) I have 12 tanks lol, not counting scratchbuilds & anything not using the rhino hull! lol

I'd add accelerant to this list, just makes the job much easier.

well, I've hacked most of the legs off, a bit difficult getting the rest without proper tools...feel silly leaving my Dremel with a family member.

The Thunder Hammer haft is still intact, should rest against the side of the mount when it's all pinned and glued. Any thoughts as to paper clip width for pinning? I saw some slightly more robust ones at Wal-Mart, wasn't sure if those would be better than the standard ones in my office.

Okay, I've taken off the legs completely aside from a little excess on the bolter/cape arm which I need to file vigorously.

I also need to flatten the bottom under the waist so it will sit right. To that goal, I'll need to cut the rounded top of the wolf mount's rider legs. Coming along quite nicely thus far though, very happy with the way it's going to look, what with the hammer held aloft beside the Iron Priest.

A friend suggested that I use Green Stuff as my adhesive and gap filler between the torso and mount and also to assist the pins with stability. Any advice there?

when I pin, I always use GS also. it's great for many things, but with pinning especialy, if you didn't drill deep enough, or took too long pieces of clip, with the GS you can easily camouflage those little mistakes (or for example, the hammer doesn't fit nicely, and you need the iron priest to get a bit higher, just fill up with GS a bit, around the pins, and if your skills are sufficient, you can even add a few extra details.)

Okay, so, I think it looks pretty good. I had a friend who was more experienced help me with the Green Stuff, but the drilling and pinning went quite nicely. The smallest drill bit I had made a hole wide enough for two paperclips, so there's double re-bar inside. After my friend did the Green Stuff, I tried to match it up somewhat with the mottled look of the rest of the armor. The consequence is that it doesn't match up too well with the legs on the mount, but I honestly don't care. Mostly, I'm just glad to have a proper Iron Priest w/ servo arm and thunder hammer.

Pics of the result are below, some touch ups to be done before priming.

I drilled some holes in the legs and added some guitar string along the legs, making a bit more ironpriest
