Anyone make their own Draigo?

Recommended Posts

I have a metal draigo, But seeing all these nice conversions, as well as the fact that I quite dislike the pose Draigo is in, might be enough to convince me to craft my own... Just need a good shield... :D

cut the one off the metal one you don't like

and I got mine on ebay for 12 bucks, so I will be happy with that

I quite like the shield I made, just need to add more purity seal's and it should look decent. Still unsure about the storm bolter magazine, but I'm sure I'll figure something out :P

bitz on ebay are crazy cheap

you can get 5 storm bolters for a buck

Well, I have assembled my Draigo, as a rough mock up to see how he looks. Still needs some extra bling, but I like him, so thought I would share him here :(

Shield needs more purity seals, and he needs a cloak, and some random grenades/trinkets etc

Realise the second picture is blurry, sorry for that, but thems the breaks!

These minies are quite different in style but there are a lot of proxies here.

For exemple, Kaldor Draiga

ps :

In Menoth, you can find inquisitorial henchmen too.

I took quite the different approach to mine, since I wanted him considerably bigger than a standard terminator. Based on Archaon on foot with some conversions done. Shield is Scibor. Other terminator is for size comparrison.

Have you ever wielded a shield before? If it's anything larger than a buckler, your arm is pretty much committed fully to the shield. When you raise the shield to block a hit, you're interposing it between your torso and face (and whatever else you can cover, but those parts especially) so you can't really see to shoot at anything. Not to mention, storm shields are also used to deflect ranged attacks including speed-of-light lascannon shots (which you need to anticipate as you can't depend on reflexes there) so if under fire you're pretty much behind that shield and effectively blind.

Beyond the practicalities of wielding the shield, there are other things to consider: construction of the shields themselves, how much they weigh, etc., there may not have been enough space to allow for a blind-firing weapon mounted in the shield; perhaps the shield's operating controls are too complex to also include firing controls for a gun; maintenance on storm shields may be complicated enough (just imagine the look on the techmarine's face when you tell him to "just stick a gun on it"; game balance: this model has a 3++ invulnerable save so something has to give.

ADDENDUM: Nurglez, that guy looks really cool.

well I for one am not a Space Marine. I imagine weight to not really be something they worry about

It's all relative, man. This isn't just a slab of steel, which you or I could carry around with one arm (for at least a little while) even with a Beretta awkwardly tied to it. This is a massive construct of plasteel and ceramite (materials with unknown density) with some sort of pre-Heresy/Dark Age of Tech field generators in it with minor Machine Spirits (AIs) and whatever other gizmos to maintain a protective force field. Sure, it could be light enough to mount a weapon to it...and if it was, why wouldn't they? It must be the case that there is some reason (you know, part of enjoying Sci Fi is suspension of disbelief) that they don't do it. Weight and space constraints are some of the easiest ones to consider. Tower Shields are extremely heavy because they're massive and metal and intended to offer as much protection as possible. If they could make a material that was lighter and stronger, they'd just pack more mass on there to get an even stronger shield. They know you can carry an N pound shield as a SM..so if they make it lighter, they'd probably just add more to keep it at N pounds and get even more protective benefit out of it.

You can't apply logic to 40k, that way lies madness.....

Doesn't the company champion in a command squad have a little shield/buckler that has a bolt pistol on it? Sure I remember seeing a model like that...

Cheers thade, I'm more or less done with the model, just need to sort out a hand holding the shield and then paint it heh.

Yes, indeedy; it's a "Combat Shield" which is a 6++ (in melee only, if memory serves). It's a buckler and does come with a bolt pistol for the 12" shot and additional attack. :P

Running out of bits? Time for another kit, perhaps? ^_^
