WIP Chapter Master AOBR

Recommended Posts

School has started, and no time to do some legit modeling. But, a friend and I were able to past time after class to convert some models for fun.

1st is the AOBR converted Chapster for my Cerulean Executioners Chapter. Friend helped do the combi-melta. Call it the Crohn-pattern. Hoo-rah! Put a jump pack to make him more assaultish.

Here's a closer look at the Crohn bolt-melta. Huge, right?

This AOBR captain has a plated-fur hat. I had a Soviet mood that day. Sorry, the fur is behind the plate.

AND HERE IS HIS ULTRAMARINE RELIC BLADE, the AZULBOURNE, Shard of Macragge. Took a Nemesis blade to make it bigger. You can see the side of the fur hat!

And my friend's accurate display of a Dark Angel that he should LOOK like straight from the box. I like the shield-bolter. For the Lion, brothers!

The shield is plasticard and a chopped-up IG grenade launcher. Like I said, very nice.

An Eviscerator chainblade. Took several swords to extend it.

And here's the overall image:

C&C are welcome to all for both posts!

don't get me wrong, i don't want to spoil your fun, it's your models and the most important thing is that you like them ^_^

but i got some critique for you

the green stuff on the dark angel looks rough and a little messy, especially in the chest area. you might get rid of that with sanding.

the weapons (shield, chainsword and combi melta) look oversized and too big for my taste.

and i think the captain looks overburdened. the winged jumpack and servo skull make his base look crowded.

just my two flayed skulls

Yeah, the Dark Angel is my friend's. I tell him. That same friend did the bolter, and he did it for my taste of sniper bolters, which I have on my Ambush Marines. But those marines are another story.

And hey, I tried my best to fix up the pathetic AOBR captain. I'm not the greatest when it comes to scrapping things up into pieces. I do agree that he is overburdened. If I could redo it, I would still keep the hat!

if your friend is trying to improve his GS skills, i strongly advise to buy some clayshapers, they really rock and with a little practice greatly improved my green stuff skills.

the hat isn't bothering me at all, it's the first marine with a russian hat i saw, but it looks good imho. i think the jumppack is throwing me off the most, cuz his overall pose is very static.

I am a fan of the Cron Pattern Weapon System. I think that whoever made it was a genious

As for true scale marines, do what your friend did but do it slowly and in steps. Then use plenty of plastic card to help with detail and design. If you rush him then you will get the finger prints on the GS.

Phew!

I agree with Wicced. The Chapter Master looks very busy. And by "very", I mean "extremely".

From a techncal point of view, it's not the best idea to wear a cloak if you're using a jump pack - but then again, he's got two hearts, so never mind ^^

The shoota's quite large, maybe a little oversized, but that's just my opinion. What I suggest is that you change the name from "Crohn" to "Crom", since "Crohn" would actually rather fit a champion of Nurgle. :-D

The helmet... Dunno if it really fits with the overall SM look. Has something completely different to it... but never mind - what's most important is that he does fit your army!

The sword's cool so far, with one exception: the Ultramarine pommel seems ridiculously oversized - at least to my mind.

As Wicced said, "I don't want to spoil your fun", I just want to give you some honest criticism.

Indeed the pommel is huge. I didn't have time or skills to make a smaller version.

Maybe I should've left some positive feedback, too...

I just noticed I was sounding quite negative here :-)

What I do like is the effort you're making to turn a "boring" and standard model like the AoBR one into a unique character - something I've been way to lazy ... yet. :-)

What about adding something like a skull, then? There are a lot of smaller skulls on every second sprue. For example CSM sprues have a shoulder pad with one attached. You can still freehand the UM symbol on that skull's forehead. Lacking the possibility to get one of those, you could also add a classic ball-shaped pommel.

Of course, if you like it that way, I apologize for giving unasked advice. oO
