I wanted my World Eaters LR to have chaos tracks, and ended up not getting enough. Which sucked, because I was stuck using the generic tracks for lack of parts. Ah, well, maybe next time. I had wanted to use the WB door sets though, but for some reason the one CC that I usually use for ordering from them, as it's one of those pre-paid ones, has decided in their infinite widom that they are no longer allowing over seas transactions, which as you can imagine has pissed me off to no end. So I am persuing other methods atm to make sure I can get my FW "fixes", hehe... If only FW would set up an ordering and distribution center on this side of the pond... My only thing, and this might just be me, is I'm not too sure about the wings on Kol Badar's shoulders/back. Bearingtheword Posted September 22, 2011 Author Share Posted September 22, 2011 The wing bit is attached to the helm that is on the back plate spikes. It's from the Termi lord sprue. I debated using that one tbh, and still might swap it out, though I suspect that the champs and lords of the host would have them to kind of show off their victories and prowess by mounting their more worthy opponents heads on the racks. I debated on whether to go with Ultramarines or White Consuls paint scheme for that helm, and ultimately decided White Consuls since that is who they faced off against in Dark Creed. The left side of the helm is painted (poorly I'm sure) as if to be showing some damage to it when the wing on that side were ripped or sliced off of the helm. As I stated I'm not sure I am liking the "colchissian script" I attempted to put on the armour to represent some of the passages etched into the armour from the Book of Lorgar. I probably should not have attempted it for the same reason I don't do edge highlighting on my models, the nerve damage in my hands makes it very difficult to keep them steady. I'll have to keep plugging along at it and hopefully it will get better in tiime and not continue to get worse. I did attempt to do some of the Lactros Sacrum bits for the shoulder pads of my termies using TDA's method, but to date they have failed miserably, so I may just have to get me some of the solvent stuff for decals and use some of the WB decals. You get plenty of skulls, scrolls, books, crazy looking heads and bodies that would make some excellent cultists. I have a few bits from the Flagellants box that I have used on various models including my dred and I love them. I think I am gonna have to pick up the whole box. I have seen some pretty cool cultist conversions done with them. Thanks for the suggestion. I also wanna get my hands on some of the Vampyre Counts skeletons as well to add some crucifixation looking bits to my vehicles as well. I think saw some done that way on one of CavPathfinders threads. I am debating on trying the edge highlights again, but have had problems keeping them thin and straight thanks to my neuropathy issues that affect my hands. I'll probably start trying it on some of my reg CSM's again and then if I can get it to where I am comfortable with it I will try it on the IC's, as I too think they would add more depth to them. Sorry the pics quality isn't that great, my box is missing and I was running out of sunlight. :D First got my termies pretty much ready to go other than a few touch-ups, finishing the bases, and clear coating. and a few pics of my Havocback (Rhino). Still needs weathering and clear coat. Bearingtheword Posted August 18, 2012 Author Share Posted August 18, 2012 Yeah the Warmonger started as a Furioso...It was ok...I'm not 100% happy with it....To me there's not enough depth where the skull helm is supposed to be, love the claws though.....I may end up converting a venerable sometime down the road. Thanks for the compliment on the cultists, they were fun to do. Have 20 of them converted and basecoated, just waiting to paint them. I have been stayong busy between them, the start of my SW's and the scratch building of 3 Leman Russ tanks and 5 Chimeras. Just have to finish painting 2 of the LR's and then build the remaining 4 Chimeras. Should have cost me about $30.00 total by the time I am done for the seven of them. By then the Starter Set will be out and I'll be working on more Chaos goodies. The Hellbrute and chosen models are insane! The cultists will be good too. Then comes the start of a couple of scratchbuilt Dreadclaws. Thanks The heads and torsos are one piece from the Forge World Renegade Enforcers set. I found a guy on ebay who had 20 of those particular parts for good price and jumped on them. The legs are from the WH Fantasy High Elf Archers, and the weps and belt bits are from Imperial Guard and Space Marine Scouts bits that I had in my bits box. Same with the chaosy "Bling" on some of them. As far as I know the only way to get cultists will be in the starter set that is due to be released at the end of the month. I am hoping that they release some in their own sets and that they have at least 2 sets, one like is in the starter set and one like the DoW ( videogame first series) type like I tried to model mine after. That, I think, would make many people quite happy. If I end up picking up some more of the Renegade Enforcer torsos, then I sure will, but to be honest it was pretty easy. Only real cutting I had to do was the tops of the High Elf Archers legs as they are much thinner waisted than the torsos. Probably use the Chosen champ with some conversion work as my Dark Apostle, the rest of the chosen as his retinue. The Hellbrute looks like it will be fun, and the cultists..... With the new codex out and of course the new minis, I'll be updating my Word Bearers XXXIVth Host to a post Dark Creed state. First up being the interment of Burias-Drakshal into a Hellbrute: Still need to do a bit of work on the base and it needs another coat of wash or two. And a pic of my Land Raider. It's been done for a while but for some reason I hadn't posted a pic of it... Game plan for my host going forward is; Losing my squad of Zerks that had been led by Khalaxis. With his death at the end of the Trilogy and the change in the codex FOC for zerks they just aren't gonna fit my army. (Good news is that gives me an excuse to repaint parts of them and start a World Eaters warband...and yeah I'm gonna use Zhufor to lead it hehe). I've now got 40 cultists in various stages of paint and will need be getting my hands on at least one Forgefiend to add to my Host. They are just too awesome not to have. My possessed are not likely to see much play this edition as now there are too many good Elite slot units. Will likely have a chosen unit as bodyguards for my Dark Apostle (who I will be running as either a Lord or a Sorc. The addition of a Dark Apostle unit was nice but it's got a few drawback that I am not happy with.) Bearingtheword Posted October 24, 2012 Author Share Posted October 24, 2012 Here are pics of the Cultists and Chosen I am painting up for the Call of Chaos vow First pic only had 19, this one has 20 Started on one of these guys before I realized I should probably take the before pic, lol (Same thing happened on my other group of 20 cultists, so I went with the DV ones rather than the converted ones as I had 5 or so with robes base painted.... Will post more pics as things progress. Still have to order my DP, Spawn and Mauler that I pledged, but I should have them after the first week of the November or so. These should help get closer to finishing up my Word Bearers (other than a couple of chaos rhinos I think) and then I can move on to my Skulltakers.
