Returning to the hobby

I've been out of the hobby for over a decade (uni and moving to Japan did that). Used to play pretty much everything (40k RT, 2nd and 3rd editions as marines and orks, Fantasy Battle as undead, Epic as space marines and orks, plus the oldies: Space Fleet, Tyranid Attack(?), Space Crusade, Hero Quest and Advanced, Necromunda and Confrontation). All my old miniatures got sold off via eBay.

...and then over the last few years I've been readin the Horus Heresy novels. They hooked me and the last time I was back in Blighty I picked up a Tactical Squad and paint set for old time's sake...needless to say I'm thoroughly enjoying painting miniatures again, and finding the years have added a bit of patience to my hand and brush work.

When I used to game no one would have thought of looking for info on the Internet, so when I stumbled over Bolter & Chainsword (looking for pre-Heresy painting schemes) I was most pleasantly surprised.

Well, I've been back in the hobby for a little over a year now and that 'oh, I'll just buy a tactical squad to paint up for old time's sake while waiting for the next HH novel to come out' snowballed into a growing space

Marine army (with the beginnings of a small IG one in the post). Bought the rule book and can never wait for the next chance for a battle :)

Ho Ho Ho

For me it was "Just a small force, maybe 500 points, and I'll get it all painted before I buy any more."
