crackel paint

Greetings Brothers

I have this idea of using a crackle off white/light yellow paint as the main color of my army that I want to repaint. Has anyone ever used this kind of paint? How did it go? The look I am going for is a really old painting. The way the paint looks like after its been on the canvas for a very long time.

After that I will be doing scroll work and classical rennansence-ish paintings on the bigger surfaces (vehicles).

This is all in the idea phase right now so no harm if its a really dumb when it moves from my head to reality on the model. Just looking for your thoughts and experinces.

Take a look at this soul grinder that I was working on a while ago;

On the blue armor plates you can see the "cracking" effect. The thing I learned as I experimented with it, is the thicker you put it on, the more dramatic the result. That creates a problem as typically thick paint + mini = ugly....I think you would get better more scaled results by painting this effect.
