Origins[/color]

The Cerberus chapter was created in the twenty-sixth founding with donated Ultramarines geneseed. Veteran Sergeant Fidelis of the Ultramarines 3rd Company Command Squad was chosen to be their first chapter master. Their geneseed may have been donated from the Ultramarines, but most of the veteran instructors assigned to the chapter were Deathwatch marines who had found that they did not fit in with their parent chapters after finishing a tour in the Deathwatch. Due to the diverse background of his new veteran officers Fidelis changed his name to Orde Wyndfeldt, honoring both the Ordo Xenos and the Ultramarines as well as symbolically starting over with the newly formed chapter.

Homeworld

The Cerberus chapter homeworld is Aita, a planet the size of Holy Terra in the eastern part of the Charadon sector. The world is in perpetual darkness due to atmospheric conditions, and only the hardiest souls venture out of the gigantic forges to brave the mists and the natural predators of Aita. Every five years the brave and ambitious gather by the fortress gates of the great forges hoping to survive the long underground trek to the Cerberus recruitment colosseums hidden far beneath the planets crust. Flash floods, toxic fungi and blind but ferocious natural predators ensure that only the most talented reach their destination and have any hope of being accepted into the fifteen year recruitment phase.

Combat Doctrine

The Cerberus chapter is focused on flexibility and adaptation. With their doctrine developed by veterans from several different chapters and campaigns they have proven eminently suited to fighting threats that are not well documented by the imperium, and have on occasions such as with the mutated ork strain on Mose Prime provided the imperium with information that has been key to exterminating fledgling threats to the imperium before they gather momentum.

Being one of the youngest chapters Cerberus only has two squads of terminators in their 1st company. The rest of the company is comprised of Vanguard and Sternguard veterans. In addition they are surprisingly often joined by Deathwatch Kill-Teams.

Cerberus has at some point provided a valuable service to the Mechanicum, and have a large number of techmarines in their ranks. While not rare, librarians and chaplains are less common than techmarines.

Cerberus veterans frequently leave the chapter to serve tours in the Deathwatch, and are encouraged to do so as Chapter Master Wyndfeldt considers this a good way of getting experience fighting enemies uncommon in the sector, not to mention practical experience using weapons that are uncommon in the chapter.

Chapter Organization

The chapter follows the Codex Astartes as closely as their limited resources allow. One remarkable difference is that while they do not have a great number of tanks, they do have at least two thunderfire cannons attached to each company with the 1st company being the only exception.

Chapter Cult

The chaplains of the Cerberus chapter are known to be incredibly stern but with a surprisingly flexible outlook when it comes to battle tactics and strategy, no doubt a side effect of their close ties with the Ordo Xenos and their shadowy ways. The large number of techmarines and the fact that battle brothers frequently leave the chapter for long periods of time to serve in the Deathwatch have caused rumours of inquisitorial scrutiny.

Gene Seed

A flaw in the geneseed causes new recruits to the chapter to lose all pigmentation in their skin. This is causing great consternation among the chapters senior staff, and the chapter apotecharies are working furiously to find a cure.

I'll have to look up the Death Spectres, fairly new to 40k so I'm not as immersed in marine lore as I could be.

The general idea is that the gene-seed defect causes them to become what is basicaly albinos yes. I liked the idea of pale marines in white armor on a world of eternal night, and it fits well with black Deathwatch armor as well.

Considering I was also planning on going for black orbs when it came to eyes it sure is starting to look like it. I have always liked Raven Guard as well, and their battle doctrines would fit small scale guerilla and special ops operations better than Ultramarines. Better start looking over what parts of the background to change.

Much obliged for all the feedback so far!
