How do you build your wolves?

So, im currious to see what my fellow wolves do, when it comes time to armoring their battle brothers. Do you go straight from the wolf pack, Or do you mix in with Tactical Marines?

My current thoughts to what i'll be doing, when my wolves arrive in the mail is this. All my Claws/Hunters/Fangs Will be mixed between the wolf pack and tactical boxes, While my Wolf Guard, Lords, priests, will be built using straight Wolf gear.

I do a mix of both as 1- it stretches further, 2- there are bits that do not come in the wolf pack box that I need such as flamers, meltas & heavy weapons, 3- it's alot harder for my guys to look identical to each other this way.

I use a mix of tactical, assault, devastator, wolf pack & the 3rd Ed SW accessories frame to make mine.

I built the majority of my infantry back when GW offered 13th company grey slayers (grey hunters) box sets, which had, more or less, every sprue from the predecessor space wolf, tactical, and chaos marine box set.

What I've built since the new power armour box has come out is just simply mix with bits. I'm willing to bet that is what most do.

It depends. For Blood Claws, I use the Assault Marine running legs mixed with the new Space Wolf set and the 3rd edition sprue. For Long Fangs and Grey Hunters, just the Space Wolf set and a 3rd edition sprue. I generally use one 3rd edition sprue per Space Wolf Pack box. I figure that they made all these nice Wolf bits, might as well theme it up!

The Space Wolves Pack is perfect for mixing with: the Tactical Marine boxed set to make Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, and Wolf Guard; the Scout boxed set to make Wolf Scouts; the Devastator boxed set to make Long Fangs; the Assault Marine boxed set to make Sky Claws; and Space Marine bikes to make Swift Claws. In fact, I'm pretty sure that was what was intended all along when they designed the sprues.

Indeed, there are 5 heads that are modeled to fit the Scout bodies, and one of the Plasma Pistols on the sprue is made to fit on the scout body.

At the time, I didn't have any extra boxes so I made my Grey Hunters straight from the Space Wolves box. I have since bought a few more that have given me extra parts (Devastators and a Combat Squad) so I'll probably mix and match some. I used some of the SW torsos and legs to make my Long Fangs (along with SW heads), so I'll need to use some of the torsos and legs from the Devastators box when building the Grey Hunters squad.

I went for mixing the Wolf Pack kit with a Tactical Marine kit to get one pack each of Grey Hunters and Blood Claws, but my HQ units use just the Wolf Pack bits. This way I can represent Runic armour if I want, or just make them look more wolfy!

My grey hunters are pure space wolves pack, long fangs are from devastator box with chest taken from space wolf accessory sprue. I also have 10 terminators, 5 made from regular terminator box and FW space wolf terminator kit, and 5 from space wolf terminator box.

Considering that I started collecting space wolves less than 6 months ago, I dont really have all those old nice bits and boxes and stuff :teehee:

i make grey hunter s more ornate than blood claws and totaly bling out wolf guard/longfangs

Just what I have started too. Adding extra stuff for IC's

Aside from Wolf Guard, I actually go with the opposite. IMO BCs would collect/care about more trophies and display/flaunt them arrogantly. GHs and LFs would be more reserved and stoic with less need to brag over their trophies and totems (again IMO). Wolf Guard are a whole 'nother ball of wax.. I picture them very ornate and wolfy.. basically, I think of them as the wolfy version of what a baroque/rococo styled armor would be.

As for bits.. I'm with Mav and just use what I have and if I have in mind a specific piece, I usually bitz order it.

I just use the more ornate pieces for the grey hunters and less ornate pieces for the blood claws. If your going to be making just grey hunters and blood claws why bother buying a tactical squad. Unless im mistaken there the same price so why make them look less cool when you can make them all super wolfy.
