Quick tournament batreps

So had a great day of gaming going until my last game when I abandoned everything and acted like Forte and Arez in their first hunting party, aka PATHETIC.

So game one was against a fellow Wolves player. Great guy! Epic game that had two of our runes priests blocking eachothers powers the whole game and finally meeting in SOLO close combat with my rune priest, Sigvid Stormbrow emerging victorious. Won the entire game, 2-1 on objectives.

Game two was against a Nid player. Another great guy even though he seemed a little weird during the game. Good game in that I won, but just boring as I absolutely know how to handle any Nid build. Completely tabled him.him

Game three, Blood Angels. This is where I toss all pre-planning and strategery or the door and play like a complete idiot. Seriously, when I saw I was playing a BA player, I WROTE on the mission sheet,

1. Melta Blood Talon dreads from Rhinos.

2. Melta/Plasma Meph from Rhinos.

First turn I am disembarking my damn Grey Hunters fromthe their Rhinos into ruins. :D?!?!? I let myself change strats right in the first turn after he popped a couple of Long Fang Razorbacks. Into ruins I went to fire from cover. One Blood Talon Furiouso went through two packs of Long Fangs, two TWC, and one GH pack!!! I felt like a total idiot after this game, staring at the board at the where my Rhinos and GH could have waited to bait and then destroy the Blood Talon Furioso and Meph.

Two more games tomorrow and I wont screw up like this again. Going for full tabling tomorrow to try and make it into top 3.

FOCUS!!

Everyone gets something different out of this hobby but I have to say that the above does not sound like my idea of fun!

You are 100% correct, dear Rusty. Losing sounds like a terrible idea and no fun at all. Why would you even want to?!

Not that I've tried it :HQ:

To be fair, winning from keen stragery, or losing a close game is both fun. Being utterly battered due to an error or miss understanding is usially not fun.

Good thing Mjod gives me clarity in every game. <3

Exactly.

Playtesting my lists against Blood Angels over the past few months, I knew exactly how to play this BA build. I was talking with the wife about later on last night and at the beginning of the game, he popped a Razorback and a Rhino which caused me to mentally screw myself into changing tactics on the fly which led to two devasting turns for me. When I tried to backpedal tactics, I ended up completely just wrecking his list. Alas, it was too far gone to recover enough and I lost 2-1 on objectives.

Today was final day and I went in solidly thinking I was going to win both my games. However no matter how mentally prepared I was for my opponent, the 4thgame mission completely wrecked me.

Salamander player, good friend of mine for game 4. During playtesting, I rocked this mission every single time. There were 5 objectives, one in each quarter and one in the center. Spearhead deployment and I had first turn which is exactly what I had hoped for and had done during playtesting. Kicker is that each objective is treated as an immobile vehicle with av13 and living metal rule that you have to score three penetrating hits against. So in playtesting, my melta Grey Hunter packs with powerfists plopped down on the center and my quarter objective and took at total of two turns to destroy them. My wolf lord and TWC cruised to the next quarter and popped that objective in one turn. While this happened, my Long Fangs, rune priests, and plasma GH pack set up a midfield fire support base and just rained fire from the heavens.

Today, thunderlord and TWC took three turns to wipe their objective. Melta GH packs with powerfists did not destroy a single objective. Long Fangs and plasma GH did what they could but with the other elements failing so badly they needed to redirect focus. The dice gods were not pleased with me. Opponent won with 2the objectives destroyed to my one.

Last game of the day was against a really fun Ork Kan/Deff Dread list. There were 4 objectioves and he needed to table me to win because he could not claim anything with his army build. I asked him to doublecheck that, but he insisted. I pushed up my melta GH packs, popped Ork metal from the hatches, then withdrew when he was able to open up my Rhinos finally. Long Fangs and rune priests worked worked from the outside of his Kan/Dread wall on the units that were not getting a save from the Mech Junka. End of game I was holding one and he was contesting one with his last unit of Kans. All Deff Dreads down and thunderlord ready to assault his Mech Junka again.

So went 3-2 and was 13th out of 50. Not terribad, but not even close as to where I wanted to be. First place was Blackmoor from here with his GK which netted him a $500 Dark Eldar army. Great prize support all around with Best Sportsman getting 3 WGTDA boxes which the BA player that won, promptly walked over to the racks and picked up a Logan Finecast for a quick Loganwing army. Player that came in last place was given an Ork battleforce. Tons of stuff to best painted army and other categories.

Glad this is my local gaming store.
